Data centers use 1% of global energy. 20% of 1% is 0.2%. AI is using 0.2% of global energy supply. Source: www.iea.org/commentaries...

Beware of seeing only the 5% that is bad and not seeing that it's 95% of the way there.

Correct. Many people also remember that an Egyptian dictator is preferred (by us) to a democratically elected Islamic government.

I have no idea whether that empire existed or not. However, it's not a presence of Turkic influenced languages there. They speak Turkish. When the USSR collapsed and the BBC were reporting in Kazakhstan, I was very surprised that I could understand what the locals were saying without translation!

To this day, Turkish is widely spoken across that region. From central China to Crimea.

Not that long ago we were all laughing at AI generated photos and videos shared online. Now creatives are up in arms and urging govt to regulate. If it's mediocre at a task now, how long before it's good enough? History says only a few years.

Go here: bsky.app/settings/fol... And untick everything. Personally, I want to see the reposts of people I follow. It's a good way to find new accounts to follow.

Learn your top five favorite solos. See what they do as the chords beneath change. Understand the timing too. The gaps are important as the notes.

There's always a lot of talk about assimilation or integration. I'd like to see it defined. I'm willing to bet that each person's definition is different. I don't have to define it because I'm "not English"... I think...

This person doesn't understand that there is no algorithm and that block works as intended.

Who's going to train the new people? We'll have to divert people already doing that job into training new people. Or get migrants to do it...

Indeed!

Also, the "renegotiations" are nothing of the sort. They are a checkpoint to see if Frosty's deal is working as expected. I don't understand why the govt is raising expectations around it, when they are damping down any talk of joining the CU or SM.

We're demanding an improved deal from the EU, without saying what we specifically want. It's the "first person to speak loses" school of negotiation. youtu.be/kSfZW1lZRMQ?...

Progressives/Liberals on Twitter are having their energy drained by arguing about bullshit. Here ideas can be properly shared and discussed.

If you're preparing to launch an abortion culture war in the UK, you would have to also be against this.

Indeed. I just went to this block list and clicked on users randomly. They all had that symbol. If you want to block in one go, follow instructions here: bsky.app/profile/numb...

For me there was definitely no point joining a discussion. The algorithm pushes blue ticks to the top and no one will see your post. Got bored of scanning for the occasional titbit amongst the angry dross.

Let's beware of wishing the EU is/acts how the Brexiters said when they called it a super state. It was a lie. It represents the consensus view of its disparate members. It's a framework that forces members to work together and it still works as that.

I am eternally grateful for my London secondary school history education 1971 - 1977. We did the (re)unification of Italy and Germany until after the First World War. I feel much better able to understand the world around me as a consequence. Mr Smith was a hero!

Your antisemitic football violence take feels wrong. Israeli fans clashed with local protestors for Gazans. The violence that followed on had nothing to do with Dutch football fans and everything to do with people angry about what is happening in Gaza.

Why are you polling for something that isn't feasible to enact?

those clowns feed off the attention they get from people they outrage. that cummings has to come here to clip stuff to keep his grievance machine going tells a story. twitter dies when musk took over. why stay there and train his AI with your content and actions?
