My mom has used Microsoft Publisher to make newsletters, brochures, and flyers for years. She asked about a replacement since it's being discontinued. What would you have recommended to a non-technical Windows user that's easily frustrated by change and technical challenges?

I’m just a girl sitting in an airport begging people to use headphones while scrolling.

My 14yr old prepared a Google Slides presentation outlining all of her requests for her 15th birthday. We told her we’ve already planned her gift. She gets to be 14 for another year. Negotiations are underway.

The flood damage in Kentucky over the weekend was not as catastrophic as some previous climate disasters in the state. But the rains still brought widespread havoc, and painful reminders of trauma.

Tom, Russ, and @esharp.net share thoughts on Architecture & [Exception] Process that resonate with me. rule11.tech/hedge-259/

Oh: you can ship features but you can’t ship emotions.

Great use of Gemini for managers! Provide your team meeting and 1:1 notes and ask it to write a job description for your team. It'll get you about 90% of the way there. 💥

As usual, @esharp.net with great insight, “there are times I wonder if our reliance on data has killed our instincts”. I will be thinking about this one for a while.

💡A few simple thoughts on building great products. eyvonnesharp.substack.com/p/ditch-the-...

The social contract is changing. I have so many thoughts here I need to organize. It’s happening culturally, politically, professionally. A lot of the assumptions people have made about how the world works won’t hold true in the future and it’s going to be a difficult adjustment.

That message….

I’m convinced most people don’t know what real strength looks like.

Love is when you send your husband out to get Taco Bell and he comes home with street tacos from the taco truck.

Don’t want to read my latest article? I’ll read it to you! Now with voiceover audio. open.substack.com/pub/eyvonnes...

Being human is hard.

💡My latest article: I could have titled it “Why being rational isn’t enough!” open.substack.com/pub/eyvonnes...

Here’s the thing: You will have to rescue yourself from whatever this day brings. Your corporate leadership, your manager, your government, your organizationally designated person in charge will not save you from the suck of the next x days/months/years. You will have to lead yourself out.

My kid is getting snow to make snow cream. I assured him I know how to make it. Still, he looked up a YouTube video to “be sure I know how.”

I'm writing a thing. The important paragraph is right in the middle. It'll be interesting if what I think is the important paragraph is what resonates with readers.

My app tells me I slept 7hr and 44mins last night. With a 7hr per night seep budget, I still have a sleep debt of 1.4%. It’s a constant struggle to get enough sleep.

There’s so much here. The only note I have is that a financial win for one spouse is a financial win for the whole family. He should be proud of her and pleased for both of them! We have always shared equally in our successes and failures.

Avoid the easy explanations. Asking “Why didn’t they just…?” in the midst of tragedy is the way people make themselves feel immune from the disaster they see on their screens. Life is fragile. Our planet can be unkind.

I know I’m late to the party. We started Peaky Blinders tonight.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling in the middle of an ice storm. At once warm and cozy with nothing to do while watching ice accumulate millimeter by millimeter and hang like stalactites from the trees, power lines, and awnings. Will the power hold or won’t it?!?

From my latest article… open.substack.com/pub/eyvonnes...

Want to bring about real change in 2025? I've been thinking about how people change their minds and what it really takes to bring about lasting change. My thoughts on patience, persistence, and how to use cognitive dissonance to move ideas forward. open.substack.com/pub/eyvonnes...

Can you name the world’s top 10 countries by GDP? This list surprised me. open.substack.com/pub/briankla...

My husband just asked if I wanted to ride to a New Year’s Event with our neighbors. They’re amazing people but… it’s a nope from me!

The things I’m most proud of this year are largely private. They’re interwoven in the stories of other people and are, in many ways, sacred.

If the app takes notes for you in class doesn’t that defeat the purpose of taking notes? Note taking apps are great to keep a record. They’re not so great if they short circuit learning.
