Light-medium lifting session followed by a 4 mile run. Feel surprisingly good. Durability is here. Now just have to maintain until August.

Country music in the gym is an abomination.

Adventuring with peeps in the deep wilderness is about forging great friendships. Because you’re all committing: if anyone breaks their leg out here, we work to bring them back alive no matter what it takes.

@kimberleydt.bsky.social @ethannewberry.bsky.social Alpine lakes - heavy work for the Venture shorts. Held up great.

This is an alarmingly good take.

Feeling surprisingly good after yesterday’s 19 mile, 5000’ mountain run. Definitely had a lot more in me despite my foot and knee hitting a bit. Will try to get in 5-7 road miles today, nice and slow, and see how I feel. Maybe only 4 if I go to the gym.

Look. Can you PROVE that miasmas and ill humors don’t cause… Oh you can? Comprehensively and categorically? With alternative, tested, proven explanations? Okay then.

Spent today exploring our public lands, grateful for the careful stewardship and conservation of the US Forest Service. Protecting these great spaces for generations to come should remain the dedicated purpose of or public servants. It is worth what we invest in it.

How bad tech delays your manuscript review: I was invited to review a manuscript outside my area of expertise at PLOS. Unlocked decline but because I didn’t click “submit” they didn’t know it for a week, and had to ask me again.

Astra know we’re going somewhere and is very excited.

Heading out into the Alpine Lakes Wilderness for our first micro adventure of the year - 18-20 miles, 5500’. No summits but 3 or 4 amazing lakes. Stay tuned for photos this evening. May even swim if it’s hot.

This kind of shit pisses me off, @theguardian.com. There are as many musical geniuses as ever, and they emerge to public consciousness frequently. Restricting ourselves just to songwriters and the digital era, consider Donald Glover and Billie Eilish. And it’s not like Wilson was MOZART.

We call this “sideways dog”.

Tough run due to low BG. But a gel and a 3 min rest saved the day. Sugar. It feeds the soul.

This is why I do what I do these days:

I set my 50 mile PR at this race. It’s fantastic. You want to run this race. Do it.

Great data driven investigation of global income and wealth inequality over the past 35 years. TL;DR: The rich are getting richer, but the poor? They’re getting richer. Progress has been staggering and now half the world’s population live in middle income countries. m.youtube.com/watch?v=9t2T...

Does GenZ know why they’re called “podcasts”?

Whence Megamaid?

I’m good.

After nearly shitting my pants on my run yesterday, and then being up much of the night with moderate abdominal cramping, this was a lot of effort, today. Didn’t want to run, didn’t want to keep running once I’d started. Days like this are great mental training.

In studying to become an expert witness, I have learned that my papers have routinely been used in court filings for like a decade. Any idea how to quantify that impact? (@drugmonkey.bsky.social?)

Superb run today with a friend. Major achievement: made it to the porta potty before shitting my pants.
