Y’all I have been following Catlin’s writing and classroom practice for years and this book is gonna be what soooo many folks have been looking for: Clear guidance on what the #SoR looks like beyond foundational skills AND how to make it joyful and magical! Let’s get the preorder book club going!

Time for a cover reveal! I am so in love the cover of my upcoming book, Reading Beyond the Basics, coming this fall from @solutiontree.bsky.social (Pre-order links below). The design team really captured something that I love about teaching reading - the magic. #ScienceOfReading #SOR

Legend out protesting today ✊🪧

I read this several years ago, but it still has a lot of power to explain Trump and Trumpism. Highly recommend.

Pretty sad to miss Spokane's combo #NoKings + Pride event, but for a good reason- nephew is graduating from college. Anyway, here is a song he made - for all you outlaws and rebels out there in the streets today. youtu.be/RZJzZpIM0to?...

Just met this man at the No Kings protest in Philly: Dan O’Neill. Dan is an evangelical Christian, but says recently left a church bc its members were so uncritically supportive of Trump. He says: “I have read the Bible recently, and everything I read in there, (Trump) is doing the opposite of.”

Tbf, he probably thought Javert was the hero.

Last year I wrote about how you can teach students how to find the "main idea" using the gist/paragraph shrinking routine. Research says it's tough for kids to do, that reading programs don't offer enough practice, and that standardized tests ♥️ to ask about it.

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence. They are in charge.

When undercover trafficking investigators, FBI agents, State Dept. officials, and IRS agents are taken from their real work to juice arrests of undocumented people at work and school, all of us are less safe. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/11/u...

They showed up at an elementary school and wanted to interview a first grader.

My uncle died of a glioblastoma. I would also like Dr. Tanner to cure brain cancer.

Reporters need to ask PressSec: if ICE does not ID, how do people know they are not being kidnapped? We know CITIZENS have been detained; how do Americans trust they won't be next? How do we know that ICE is focusing on the most dangerous, rather than easiest to find (people in legal processes)?

One of our students was planning to start Job Corps soon; he's been excitedly talking about it for months. This was a terrific option for this young man. Now...more American dreams crushed.

Y'all! I'm so pleased to announce that I have a book coming out this September from @solutiontree.bsky.social It's called Reading Beyond the Basics: Key Routines for Engaging, Research-Informed Instruction in Grades 2–6. Links for pre-order below. Cover reveal coming soon

This is bonkers. If you've ever talked to a nurse who treated pregnant Covid patients, you know how devastating this disease can be.

Bye, bye world class public university system. I was once proud to work in the UT System.

This is good news ... for now. Charter schools ARE public schools.

Received this today and so far it's delightful and incredibly informative. #JustTellThem #ScienceOfLearning

Been thinking about the difference between the science of reading and "pop SOR," so going to re-up this January post about some worrying trends in literacy instruction, and some thoughts on how to adjust course. tinyurl.com/54j479d3

So important that those of us who advocate for the “science of reading” make clear that we mean so much more than phonics!

Saw these old "friends" in a classroom today. Y'all, Eagle Eye and Skippy Frog need to retire and let their grandkid Blending Bluebird inherit the family business.

A high school freshman takes transphobic Maine politicians to task for bullying the trans girl who beat her in a race. Kudos to you, Anelise Feldman.
