I haven’t seen a lot in Dutch. What I have seen uses either “wegmarkering” or “belijning”.
An English-language article says the widening of the lines, and consequent narrowing of the blacktop, is part of the desired effect.

I think the accent split into familial idiolects in the intervening generations. The diaspora scattered instead of clustering.
