DDV was insane last year. I think Curry and Heild are the only two players to shoot that well at that volume over the course of a season. Expecting that from Grimes or anyone else was unfair

He had a coach that told him he could only shoot layups and 3s. Maybe that had something to do with it 🤷‍♂️

Players never have a choice. Coaches decide who plays and how much. Do you really think Grimes won’t accept a role playing less than 30 minutes a night on any team?

I’m pushing back on the idea that they didn’t work. Both worked most of their tenure. Both had a significant falling outs with the head coach and were traded for next to nothing while still on rookie contracts. I’m just doing the math

He didn’t need to be prioritized above anyone to fit and have a role. Toppin isn’t being prioritizes above PS but he is suddenly is cool with his role and has a good “fit” doing most of the same things. I have no idea why you think Grimes being traded twice means anything

No one claimed they are stars. They are valuable support pieces who were given away. The FO has been great in NY. The fact that giving away these guys is notable speaks to that as well

He was very good when he played for 2 yrs. In the 1/2 yr he “struggled” he shot 36% from 3 on solid volume and played great D. DDV had an historic year from 3. That wasn’t normal. He didn’t and doesn’t need 30 mins plus he was good/fit fine

When you are playing against Obi Toppin anything can happen

they are both plug and play guys on offense that mostly played well in NY. Toppin seems very happy in Indy playing about the same minutes as being mostly an off ball spacer just like in NY. Situationally he gets more minutes/plays small ball lineups and has a little more freedom offensively.

Bc he was a good starting player year 2 on a playoff team and we got a 2 month rental and nothing else. That’s a bad return. Also he was hurt in Detroit, pretty good in Dallas, and great on a tanking 76ers team where he played a role he likely won’t see again

Toppin wasn’t trusted and lived in Thibs doghouse. he didn’t a get much of a look when the team was eliminated from playoff contention/had Gibson and Noel playing front court minutes. Grimes reportedly fell out of favor after not playing through injury year 2 and clashed w Thibs yr 3

It’s completely fair. Both guys were good rookie contract players for NY. Neither guy is a prima Donna. Both guys were dealt largely bc they clashed with the coach and the Knicks got next to nothing for them

Absolutely. The Dems are up against a guy that went down on his mic at a rally and most still act terrified of tip toeing outside the Overton window

needing to get the last word and being insecurely over invested in winning an online flame war is manly 🤷‍♂️

I agree I-Hart’s ability to distribute from the high post or short roll plus his DHO game masked the lack of other true ball handlers last year. Towns actually did a little of that early but he was chucker in the playoffs.

Why? Are they going drive tanks over road that can’t handle it or something?
