Lived there a couple years doing reverse commute to highland park. Such a great area (especially then.. nostalgia glasses) but spent the whole time envious of red liners, only to miss the quick ride downtown and to ravenswood/RP/evanston/ravinia after I left

Yes, electeds should put resources in proving to their constituents that their vision of governance is the best on offer. It’s the most basic part of the job

…would destroy it *quickly*. If it’s a slow destruction that folks won’t notice for a generation, all good

Also curious. Just fully made up or can you skew the numbers enough to pull that stat out somehow?

The thing is that this is both incredibly unfair to Joe Biden and also incredibly exculpatory. Joe Biden is an old guy who gets confused in the moment like a lot of old guys. He wasn’t out of his mind. He knew what he was doing. That goes both for good domestic stuff and also for atrocities.

So Biden’s policies for suppressing working class wages failed? Since the lowest quartile wages rose higher than inflation and higher than any quartile throughout the 4 years

Nobody doubts that bastards follow orders from time to time or that those orders can sometimes be in the public benefit. But cops absolutely, structurally bastardize public safety in spite

My billionaire pipe dream is to snatch up a bunch of just-didn’t-make-the-cut-to-pro athletes from across the board and create a new sport designed to be unpredictable. Randomized rulesets, changing field layouts, hidden traps, audience participation

My longest held sports opinion is that they should be weirder. Where’s the spectacle?? Funny that baseball might be the fandom that comes around first

Imagine factory management/engineers having the kind of talk-back session that were typical (becoming less so) at Facebook, Google etc. The power dynamic is obviously v different than what had been cultivated in digital age companies over the last couple decades, especially in CEOs’ imaginations

I just really disagree across the board. Many have a perverse idea of to whom they owe responsibility though.

States should be in this business, too, and Illinois already is. Pritzker going whole hog on “we’re safe for scientists, and the more neon your hair is, the larger your grant” is going to eliminate all budget problems for the next 20 years if done unabashedly.

They do and they haven’t been amplified by the legitimization leant by taking advantage of anti-majoritarian features in their political systems.

The key is that the system legitimizes itself. A minority movement that takes advantage one undemocratic aspect obscures its own lack of support and is set up to better take advantage of other flaws. There’s no One Neat Trick (abolish EC). You have reassert primacy of democracy across the board
