What problem is it giving you? I used to use Gauche to paint super realistic scenes on nautical charts.

Also a few years ago an art teacher told me my drawing skills weren’t very good. While that’s partly true, I still do get regular work as an artist. (I’ll probably never be Leonardo da Vinci.🤪) It took me a while to get over that blow to my confidence. I realized I can never succeed if I give up.

I come across so many people with experiences that ruined art for them. Maybe try something else that fulfills the need to create? Something that feels fun? I LOVE abstract so that’s what I do for me. They almost never sell. Only realistic stuff. 🤪🤪🤪 (I do draw for $$ tho, and that’s pretty nice.)

Totally understand that. And it’s so hard not to compare. I work at just doing what I like for myself. My artwork in my house makes me reeeeeally happy. Art for me. And if someone wants to buy one and I can bear to let it go… $$

I took a drawing class and found out that when I HAD to, I could. I just didn’t enjoy the process of learning it. So I paint what I like, draw when I want, and I eventually got better. We put so much pressure on ourselves to get good at things immediately or give up. No pressure. Do what’s fun.

I used to draw as a kid but, like you, didn’t have patience to become proficient. But I LOVE to paint. It feels more like building to me. I find that the more I do it, the better my drawing skills become. So I say, do what you love. The skill will come. I personally think talent is in determination.
