I’ve never seen a shot of it with so little snow. The famous White Spider looks like it’s almost gone. The two icefields climbers have to cross look almost bare. Terrifying.

Jaws led to a huge increase in inshore shark fishing, adding pressure to already threatened species. Peter Benchley who wrote Jaws rightly devoted efforts to shark conservation. Much much more is needed.

Yes. Lots of logistics journeys are way under capacity.
comment in response to post
Five days worth of deliveries could all arrive on the same day. Logistics warehouses are perfectly capable of managing that. We just have a strange expectation of having stuff the next day. You don’t get that so much in big countries.

I can live with that. I’m more appalled by our sports stars that move to Monaco. Tax shy scumbags.

Sadly, the way the media are frothing about yesterday’s deal, I wouldn’t be surprised if polling slips back a bit.

I don’t know about that. This was utterly damning of the settler movement. The Israeli Government will have been fuming. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...

It’s true that us Brits won’t buy US beef in supermarkets or butchers but we won’t know if it’s in pre-prepared ready meals, sandwiches or on restaurant menus. We’ll need to lobby government really hard to make sure it’s labelled properly there so we can make informed decisions.

Also, if you have a patch of clover, try to never mow it. It’ll slowly grow and become a haven for bumble bees. In late summer when the rest of the lawn looks a bit parched, it’ll still be green and lush.

What if they can’t hear? Is it their fault when they ignore your bell? Got headphones in? Is that their tough luck? Slow down, change direction. Expecting people to understand your intentions based on a bell isn’t good enough.

Desalination consumes huge amounts of energy. There are so many things we should be doing before considering using that.
comment in response to post
Took my bell off years ago. If you’ve got time to reach for the bell, you’ve got time to reach for the brake and change direction.

Too expensive to go out drinking. Night in Gail?

It’s ok Mr Zuckerberg sir. You’ve only got 3 fewer friends than the average American.

So his first “priority” is carbon capture which has no track record apart from its remarkable ability to suck money out of government and making people think it’s ok to carry on as normal. It’s almost as if the Tony Blair Institute has been in the payroll of Saudi oil.

Sometimes, when dealing with issues as big and terrifying as climate change and the biodiversity crisis, you have to pinch your nose and work with people you utterly disagree with on other issues. I wish everyone who wants a greener world also wanted to advance trans rights but it’s unrealistic.

Brexit was quite a moment of self harm.
comment in response to post
It is. We’re just at the start of living with +1.5 and the list of mad climate changes, floods, droughts, storms etc is getting exhausting. Glaciers continue to melt fast with profound effects to water supply even before they’ve fully disappeared. This is not normal so let’s not normalise it.

A long time ago, slightly different route via Genoa. Carrying full scuba gear too which I’d advise against! Suffice to say, we needed a good wash when we got to Valletta.

Like clockwork, he’s asking Farage about climate change. Didn’t want to ask the Green Party leader about key green policy? FFS BBC.

And there wasn’t a dragon.
comment in response to post
He hasn’t asked the co-leader of the Green Party a single question about Green Party policy. Not a word about the environment. He’ll let Farage talk about whatever he wants later.

In fairness they do. To make sure they’re not disproportionately targeting certain ethnicities for certain crimes.

I’ve done it before from London to Malta. A lovely trip, especially the Italian coast stretch. Enjoy!

All that is true. However, I think we need to push back on the idea that we need to meet increasing demand. Can’t we push for reducing demand? E.g. pushing for more energy efficiency, better insulation, de-normalise driving SUVs, stopping flying in food from half way round the world?
comment in response to post
Looks like gas use in California is barely dropping. So renewables aren’t managing to replace fossil fuels, just help us to keep up with increasing demand for energy. We need to start getting serious about reducing overall energy demand.

In fairness the world is very different now for the Post Office. Email, more online services that used to be done at Post Office counters and lots more private competition for deliveries make it hard to see how it can continue.

And yes. I’m being a pompous twat by adding alt-text to explain it’s an image showing where someone forgot to use alt-text. I’ll stop now.
