As someone who works with children with complex communication needs this story has really concerned me. It’s heavily based on parents’ report. In the report the college say don’t use FC and their current audit ‘reports positively on SLT’ but this is right at the bottom of the article.

It’s a toy elephant, if that… helps?

My kids have just pointed out that the old PS4 Lego games are really good for this - the adult can drive the plot and the kid can just chaos monkey around the place

Have you tried Overcooked? That has great collaborative game play (and much shrieking)

How did the kid cope with murdering the elephant? We did not enjoy that one little bit.

Apologies, it was a spokesperson for Redbridge council (which is still worrying)

I am worried by the lawyers comment stating only interventions specified in an EHCP should be provided to
minimise risk of this happening. That doesn’t allow ongoing responsiveness to the person’s changing needs.

And although I wasn't playing a mega rave with thousands of people etc it just reminded me of why I play at all. Because music is the easiest way to touch the eternal. It transcends everything. It brings you back, sends you forward and brings us together. I love it and hope when I die Im mixing.

Not really because each child’s provision is specified in their EHCP - which the local authority pays ideally by identifying a school with therapy provided but parents can choose whatever school they want & assume therapy will just be available. The system is fucked

That is fantastic! How did you do it? My 12th is desperate for a robin to feed from her hand!

It’s all very ‘’medical model’ - which can be harmful to people with long term conditions IME. Carers who have supported the person and social care should be part of the process. Not just people with degrees.

True, and I have immense sympathy for people in this situation and agree control over how a life ends gives people dignity - I’m just not sure that 2 doctors is the foolproof safety system we need.

I work with kids with complex needs and learning disabilities. I’ve seen a letter where a consultant suggested cutting a kids tongue in half because they couldn’t inhibit sticking it out. There are communities with legitimate concerns around this bill.

It’s much trickier for people with learning disabilities to get this sorted

I am still obsessed with the tiny Star Wars toys in Lucy and Tom at Christmas. I am 48.

It’s such a shame. Care work is fucking brilliant, life affirming, human and often fun. If it paid enough to feed a family it would be a coveted post.
