Been a while since I’ve posted anything, going to try to rectify that, so here’s my most recent purchase - Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PS5 (with the other side of the reversible sleeve), along with the steelbook that was very kindly thrown in as a bonus as well 😊

Will we see more from The Doc? I want to see the paper she writes as a result of her ‘experiment’ for example…

On top of it being lazy xenophobia, it’s breathtakingly poorly written lazy xenophobia. I’m surprised she didn’t use the word ‘frogs’ but maybe she has that piece primed for The Sun…Insufferable even by her usual ‘standards’

First thought was Gremlins 2, but I’ll also chip in with Troll 2 as well

I struggle to comprehend why men behave like that - even when people ‘explain’ it to me, I still struggle (if anything it ends up being even more baffling to me). It’s completely alien to me. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.

It’s a great film. A franchise film that is still clearly ‘un film de Brian De Palma’. I can even forgive the TGV/Channel Tunnel train being able to run without overhead wires, or else we wouldn’t have had THAT train roof chase (with a bonus bewildered David Schneider as the train conductor as well)

From what I’ve read elsewhere, her father tried and has washed his hands of her - hasn’t spoken to her for a good while. Whether that’s true or not, not sure but wouldn’t be surprised given his personal politics.

The alt text auto-correct is even better. I mean, I know Hugh Jackman’s an enormous screen presence but I didn’t know he had the chops to play a Lancashire town…

I know some middle-class Brits who are similar, somebody that I work with had got to their 30s having never been on a train. If we wanted to go anywhere, we had no choice but to go by bus or train growing up (not to go too ‘had an onion on my belt’ there).

Didn’t take them long, did it? It’s how they deal with the disappointment of them not being brown/black/trans etc. They seem to have glossed over the ‘drug-driving’ charge as well, something they’d leap on immediately, if he wasn’t such a ‘fantastic guy’ (white middle-class businessman, nice house)

‘At the click of a button’ because of course all streaming sites’ interfaces are set up to enable you to watch exactly what you actually want to watch and not what they want you to watch, yep definitely 🤭

Same how people swallowed austerity - ‘there’s no money left’ which has always been bollocks. That coalition government couldn’t believe its luck.
The depressing thing is, it would cost less to truly improve things than funding AI. But Keir do tell us more about how AI will make everything better…

Know it’s not necessarily what you were driving it and Preston’s nowhere near the worst for it, and nowhere near as depressingly moribund as places such as Ashton-under-Lyme and the like, but it just came to mind reading the thread. It’s all clearly a conscious choice, as well

Went into what used to be Debenhams in Preston a few weeks back which is now a homeless charity department store and, while it’s good the space is being used and the charity does good work, it was one of the most depressing experiences I’ve had in a long time

Like the majority of English language remakes of foreign language films - utterly pointless and usually soulless.
Also, it’s that ‘if it’s animated it’s not a real film’ snobbiness as well…

A demonstration of just how utterly toxic society is in this country. We’re supposed to care about rich people (and yes, they are rich) but not about the poor or disabled people losing benefits. There’ll be working people forced to use food banks who won’t have been on five holidays in their lives

I can’t believe how naive I was in thinking that the pandemic might have made people think more about others, care more about others and we might have become a kinder society/world. I couldn’t have been more wrong. If anything it’s gone in the opposite direction, which is so depressing it hurts 😔
