To be fair anyone still taking what Israel is saying at face value, no matter how convincing, is either being disingenuous or stupid.

Buailtear leis an ainm céanna san Ostair chomh maith, agus ní Éireannaigh iad!

It's a fine city! Vienna also not so far away.

'if it stands up to legislative scrutiny' doing a *lot of heavy lifting there, we shall see. If our government's actions match its rhetoric, it will finally be in step with civil society.

And exactly why the government wants to restrict the OTB to goods and exclude services.

Experience - my dog ate milk chocolate, not I tried to poison a dog with chocolate!!

Also - and I speak from experience - it is *extremely unlikely that any dog will die from eating milk chocolate. It's cocoa that's poisonous and only present in sufficient quantity in dark chocolate.

I don't live in Ireland. I live in Vienna, where I know Jews. The Jewish population in Ireland is quite small, so the chances of knowing a jewish person is quite small. But I fail to see what that has to do with your argument.

Apologies, I meant Chaim Herzog.

Your example has been referred to - by the son of a prominent Jewish politician who fought in our War of Independence - as an aberration. It is literally the only type of its kind to have happened in Ireland (and was roundly - and rightly - condemned). Chaim Weizmann was born in Ireland!

You are moving the goalposts here. Historically - and this is confirmed by, again, the chief rabbi of the British Empire - there has not been widespread antisemitism in Ireland. Anti-Zionism, on the other hand...

Every society has its anti-Semites. This priest was eventually removed from Limerick and his appalling campaign was vilified in the local and national media. While some Jewish families (a minority) left, a greater number actually arrived in Limerick in the following years.

I didn't know you'd done so much research. "Ireland is the only country in the world which cannot be charged with persecuting Jews". Hermann Adler, Chief Rabbi of the British Empire, 1892.

Would love to know why you think the Jewish population in Ireland is low.

Is there any reading on this matter? Because it goes against every grain of accepted wisdom regarding language acquisition. Also, the situation of Irish in relation to English is am altogether more delicate one.

The capitalisation thing isn't an offence for me (although it annoys me). The sentence itself is so unbelievably wrong-headed and stupid.

I would be genuinely and surprised and shocked if this was the case.

And that's fair enough. But 'prime minister' is not the English for Taoiseach.
