"Create a journal for replication work". 🙄 This comes up time again as if there aren't existing places to put replications. PLOSOne will taken them, plenty of other journals will, and bioRxiv has had an article type called "Confirmatory Results" since we launched in 2013!

From a strategic standpoint, it seems important to remember that the 'center of gravity' of a protest movement is not control of the streets, but public opinion. The challenge that creates is a common strategic challenge: the emotionally satisfying thing is not the effective thing.

This skateboarder kid represents true US resistance vs the Trump regime's fascist authoritarianism attacking US cities and communities nationwide. Dozens of regime ICE troops assaulted him and he still came out on top. #3E #StopICE (📹 @jeremotographs.bsky.social )

Trump regime ICE forces firing randomly at US citizens in Los Angeles over the weekend. The brave people of California rose up to protect their communities from masked unidentified fascists that were abducting innocent people off the streets.

“Among the canceled contracts was one to maintain a gene sequencing device used to develop better cancer treatments.”

#ProudBlue #Voices4Victory Sneaky bastards! The GOP hide a provision that makes it more expensive to seek legal action against trump’s policies. Autocrats do this. Consolidate power, increase the penalty for objecting, making it impossible to challenge them. www.alternet.org/trump-execut...

My congress person actually showed up to something. Its a chili cookoff and not a town hall, but I guess that’s something

I do think the Democratic Party has a gerontocracy problem, but the media focus on Biden's age because of Jake Tapper's book tour always feels off given that the *current* president is also clearly sundowning to little media coverage. www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...

Funny how the admin is always throwing out insane timelines like "we're going to code the entire government system from scratch in 2 weeks!". But asking businesses not to poison our literal source of life? Gotta extend it another couple years

Commentary by Dustin Pugel U. S. House is considering a plan that would take health coverage and food assistance away from more than 100,000 Kentuckians, all to offset a fraction of the cost of cutting taxes for America’s wealthiest people and corporations. kentuckylantern.com/2025/05/16/k...

Jim Henson left us 35 years ago today. I loved being on the Muppet Show!! Here’s a video of me with my buddies!

Yeah, take that, you freeloading newborns.

This line is going to stick with me for a very long time. “One of them is a 4-year-old with Stage 4 cancer who was deported without medication or the ability to contact their doctors…”

If you'd like to see and hear @hcrichardson.bsky.social deliver her blow-by-blow account of the lighting of the lamps in the Old North Church – where she gave this address – and the Ride of Paul Revere 250 years ago, someone did us the service of recording it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv5l...

Tonight is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s midnight ride. May his memory remind us all to resist the tyranny forming in our government.

The entire budget of the National Endowment for the Humanities (which has been devastated by Trump & Musk) is 3% of this.

If you're in the DMV and you want to raise a glass to a great the AFI Silver in Silver Spring is showing Top Secret! for like a week with some truly unsettling timing.

“DOGE won’t just fall short of Musk’s deficit-reduction goals. It will, in all probability, increase the deficit,” Jonathan Chait writes. Are the deficit-reduction efforts just a pretext for ideological warfare? theatln.tc/0zdiT2Hb

if Hegseth and others won't resign, impeach them House Dems should file impeachment resolutions today

Facts: Elon Musk is not in the cabinet. Elon Musk is not a department head. Elon Musk was not confirmed by the Senate. “DOGE” is not a real department. “DOGE” was never created by Congress. “DOGE” is acting outside all legal authority. “DOGE” is fake — and 100% CORRUPT.

“I could not believe that the national-security leadership of the U.S. would communicate on Signal about imminent war plans. I also could not believe that the national security adviser to the president would be so reckless as to include the editor in chief of The Atlantic in such discussions.”

Casar: You can quickly explain Doge with just two numbers. First: $8 million a day. That’s how much Elon Musk collects in federal government contracts. Second: $65 a day. That’s how much the average senior—someone who has worked their entire life—gets from Social Security.…

The only fair way to handle this is to appoint a team of teenagers to tear this company limb from limb until we find out what kind of financial damage they are hiding and where

WIRED: “It’s a heist — real federal auditors are horrified by DOGE… DOGE has posted some of its ‘findings’ on its website, many of which have been revealed to be errors.” www.wired.com/story/federa...

Yes, below. (I am a PhD, not an MD). This work does not get done anywhere else. It's not financially lucrative enough. We invest in pediatric cancer research as a *society* because that work does not get done otherwise. Hard impacts to MDs especially: bench research can't be done in private practice

I can't bring myself to make flippant remarks about getting what you voted for and dismantling of NOAA. Tornados are terrifying. Hurricanes that spin up from a Cat 1 to a 5 in 2 hours are nightmares. We need to be able to accurately predict these. We need to talk about why they're getting worse.

These are the same Senate Democrats who lectured the base for years about the importance of preserving the filibuster so it would still be available when Democrats were in the minority

With the House in recess and so much to discuss, House Republicans have plenty of time for town halls - but they’d rather ignore their constituents. Demand they hold town halls!

Maybe it's just the algoritm, but at this moment, the only people I see standing up for democracy are excommunicated Republicans and a few, mostly female, democrates of color. With this guy at the for front. Maybe it's time for a new party, with actual principles.

For the democrats saying “we can’t let the govt shut down” you’ve already lost. It’s not on you. Republicans control everything, didn’t come to you for anything except your vote. Where else can you force changes? You can’t… you’re a willing participant in Republican majority

House Democrats are very clear: We’re asking Senate Democrats to vote no on this CR, which is not clean.
