🧵 on the suffering of people enduring Long Covid globally, in the absence of proper knowledge and care. It is another epidemic we must recognise.

This should keep us up at night -

Writing is hard, but writing is also part of the process of thinking, so lets not decapitate ourselves by outsourcing our thinking to Gen AI?

I’m still thinking about this, and wondering what sort of support might be useful I suspect even just having a space to share ideas and strategies ends up being useful before we get into lists of tools or apps or anything like that, what do you think? (And big thanks to all who’ve already replied)

Long Covid is almost completely erased from scholarly, professional and public knowledge in Brazil. Yet prevalence and symptoms are the same as in the Global North, where most research is located. We are trying to increase its recognition!

✍ New blog on Global Health at LSE! "The Invisible Crisis: Long Covid and Related Conditions in Brazil" Brenda Sabaine & @floracornish.bsky.social from @lsemethodology.bsky.social write on the neglect of long Covid & infection-related chronic conditions by global health systems. bit.ly/3Tr4nVT

I’m also building out a free training for writers and authors who want to be able to progress their manuscript while napping or walking the dog—whether because they’re time poor or disabled, chronically ill or neurodivergent (who, let’s face it, are also time poor)

Urgent need for blood donors in UK. I started donating blood after a friend needed a blood transfusion, stopped when I got Long Covid. It is easy to do, somebody out there really needs it! #showmeyourkinits #knitting 🧶 cowl week A double length cowl I made in fisherman's rib, using malabrigo rios yarn, to make it thick and cosy. The grey and turquoise reminded me of the flat pastel colours of dublin bay on an overcast day.

I have been talking with students about their uncritical use of Gen AI in their writing, and they talk about the intense *time pressure* of multiple assignments and deadlines. If we want students to have time to think and appreciate space to explore we might have to rethink everything!

These testimonies reinforce exactly what I'm hearing as I go present at schools and universities about how to adapt to teaching writing in an AI world. 1. Schools and institutions embracing the technology while also requiring instructors to police academic integrity is a disaster. (cont.)

Next Saturday, 14 June, is the 8th anniversary of Grenfell. It is hard to fathom. Everybody is welcome at the silent walks, come if you can, to show solidarity and demand change 💚

Baby blanket from 2023 for #showmeyourknits Pattern is garter ripple squish by Louise Tilbrook, in Tribe yarns merino cloud (so soft). It is lovely but took me so long, am thinking of crochet for next baby blanket

BREAKING: French dock workers in Fos-sur-Mer refused today to load machine gun ammo destined for Israel's army

I find their lifeforce so damn hopeful 🌱 (Hope being a practice, I have to water them!) 🥰 #bloomscrolling #hope

Are we really doing this, going back to all exams for assessment? Surely we can do better? Seize the moment for creative approaches to assessment? #AcademicSky

I'm battling with students' use of AI in their assignments this week, and this piece is very good.

Israel’s intensified attacks on Gaza have killed more than 130 Palestinians in a matter of hours, as ceasefire negotiations continue. Horrific videos show people in pieces and on fire following strikes on tents sheltering displaced civilians. aje.io/j1wke5
