Indeed. The Handmaid's Tale once seemed like a theoretical, frightening possibility at a distance. Now? . . . Yeah, prophetic.

Apparently enough people were convinced things were bad enough to choose Fascism over freedom, even if they didn't see it in those stark terms.
It may have been brainwashing. It may have been Fox News propaganda meeting Russian interference. Maybe many just learned to hate people instead of listen.

Text me. I may need to first clear out a throat infection that has been building for most of the week starting with a chlorine burn and maybe allergies.

It's up to us. Me too.
People who create the strategic maps functionally allowing us to collectively cut social power off from those nefariously misdirecting us will be the next great leaders and philosophers.
It's that or let compassionless foolishness destroy everything.

The good news: Within ourselves, we are always free.
Collectively, we have power.
We never have to give in to the rich and powerful who are psychologically and socially bending the world around us.
Freedom is within. Our allegiance is with values and principles higher than their corruption.

Taking care with language, "human" is prone to categorization, as well, as people attempt to define who is "in" and who is "out." The term can be so easily corrupted.
Thus, in imperfect communication, I agree with you wholeheartedly: everyone simply deserves respect.
There are no qualifications.

Exactly! When I consider the vast number of people I've known with autism, some who I've called my best friends at different times of my life, it's an amazing realization.
Language definitely can dehumanize without intent, perpetuating false hierarchies and labels. Autism is a human trait.

Thank you for your correction of my mistake in using a "functioning" label.
I can see why this is a problem, and will try to be more careful.
My first priority is respect for people I genuinely respect and appreciate.
People with autism have played a tremendous role throughout my life.

Further, RFK Jr. talking so dismissively and ignorantly about people with neurodivergence parallels all the closeted Republicans spreading homophobic hate and voting against gay rights.
The lack of self awareness among oppressive types is staggering.
We need more awareness about neurodivergence.

RFK's words reveal how insulated and isolated from the rest of society rich people in politics have become.
I know lots of autistic people, most very high functioning, from growing up in public school, multiple churches, and activism.
They're part of our lives.
Where have the rich folks been?

I just found this. Maybe there's hope. The Dept. of Ed. will announce how new income based repayment terms will work, next week.
I hope it's better than the rest of what's come up lately.

Cruelty is, and will be, Trumpism's undoing.

You may still have a chance for advancement. I think there's a high probability this will get sorted out in future political cycles, fortunately.
For a time, we may be stuck with quasi-authoritarian Trumpism, but enough people are getting ****ed over to ensure it's unlikely to continue for long.

Why they're destroying the American economy:
Power. It's easier to control people economically impoverished.
Shaping society to the liking of radically far-right social interests seeking to exploit people.
Putin.

Wow that really, really stinks. I've barely begun to evaluate my own situation.
The Department of Ed. froze applications for new consolidations due to the iffy legal situation just after I finished grad school.
Fantastic timing. I was counting on this. The servicer hasn't begun harassing me yet.

OMG I'm so sorry. Has the loan servicer offered any better options?

That route (depending on circumstance) may be the only good option for many until stable government leadership returns.

Students receiving these ridiculous, unpayable bills (who go into default) could face:
* Wage garnishment.
* Withholding of tax refunds.
* Withholding of Social Security payments.
I hope the loan reconciliation terms available after this disaster will allow the loans to be remotely payable.

Third space. :)
(A sociological term for the communities of an ideal world we create together. It's a very old term which has continuing application in activism and among marginalized people.)

It's not the first time Trump shot himself in the proverbial foot with his own voters ... not that he'd care much considering he seems to win no matter how many people he sidelines, insults, and oppresses.
It's kinda strange, actually. You'd think voters would be hard to get if you offend everyone.

To Trump, White Supremacists and authoritarian leaders are good.
To Trump, real people with a moral code who speak out against his blatant cruelty and tyranny are bad.
He invents criminals for personal gain seeing himself as the only end authority on everything. Not law. Not common good. Him.
comment in response to

What's defined as acceptable and criminal in a society has everything to do with power.
Who is in "control?"
Trump pardoned rioters and approves of a violent invasion of the Capitol he stoked, which harmed officers and threatened lives.
He calls nonviolent protesters terrorists. It's a mind-warp.

Special Note: I usually avoid the royal / Feudalistic / Monarchy language that seeped into Christianity and its language over time. Use of "royal" language is artistic, here only.
It's better in the long run to create better metaphors, language, and ways of describing God that promote mutuality.
