Just out! Our peer-reviewed critique of the Cass Review has been published by BMC Medical Research Methodology. Please read and share. We show that the Cass Review is fatally flawed and should not be the basis for policy or practice in transgender healthcare. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

I thought ā€œUsaianā€ was a bit of a wild throwaway name for ā€œUSA peopleā€ from a niche discussion to replace the misuse of ā€œAmericanā€ā€¦ …and now I’ve seen it pop up in a few comments here and there on social media. I was skeptical but now I wonder if it will grow.

I’m still puzzled how Config — an event tied to a for-profit product company — seems having ascended in the last few years as ā€œthe digital design eventā€. It does feel wrong somehow?

I’ve added a couple dozen links (to posts, articles, videos, examples, Figma responses, etc.) since this morning: adrianroselli.com/2025/05/do-n... It’s nice to know that my reaction to #Figma Sites was not an outlier. #HTML #CSS #a11y #accessibility

Run the government like a business they said. That will be efficient they said.

Don’t take this as contradicting the whole argument but also the correlation between writing an essay and understanding the topic has always been poor. I’ve met countless students amazing at writing essays that they had no clue what the content meant at a deeper inquiry.

Yeah I mean they are dying… but it’s not like schools are where these were found even before. It’s important to point out that very few people go to school and university and out of pure interest. Most do because there was a social contract connecting that to jobs and good life. Now broken.

Question: is there a good strategy y’all use these days to stay on top of good design and product writings by people around the web, or do I have to accept everything is now scattered across many platforms, social, newsletters, personal sites?

Figma Config AI stuff: this is exactly why for the past year or so I kept saying regarding design and AI ā€œbefore investing deep in training wait for the big players announcementsā€ā€¦ Yes playing on the edge of new is fun, but it’s not the whole game in terms of design orgs. #design

I find it hilarious they mention they don’t know why. They do know. It’s inherent in the technology. Unless there’s some kind of technological leap to the same magnitude that gave us transformers, hallucinations can only be ā€˜manually’ patched, not removed.

Effectively, almost no company goal anymore is to provide a good service to people. They can all shout ā€œmissionā€ and ā€œpurposeā€ but none ends up being true. These all exist to extract money.

ā€œHe empathized with society’s collective craving for future-forward capitalism. That’s empathy in action.ā€ ā€œHe empathized with society’s collective craving for future-forward populism. That’s empathy in action.ā€ And this kids is how the meaning of words gets rewritten.

"With such ambiguous objectives ... teams struggle to measure the impact of their work, suggesting many workers lack a clear understanding of their AI project's purpose beyond the technology itself." That's one conclusion. Another conclusion is: the AI project HAS no purpose beyond the technology.

civic technology origin story right here (ok this kind of civic awakening can in fact go many places, but when the first step is a spreadsheet, there's a version where 5-6 years later you are talking about federal procurement regs at parties)

PSA of least common ones that I keep seeing used even by major activists: Substack refuses to remove nazis from its platform Vercel/NextJS/v0 has a CEO that endorses the current USA administration

every gender transition is a statement in favor of human possibility and freedom and i’m tired of hearing it talked about like it’s some kind of disease

How big is the gap from this to the laws banning women wearing trousers that were around till 1950s or so? These ā€œnatural sexesā€ really need hard work to be enforced eh?

I wonder if 20+ years of social media have anything to do that the average USAian has fewer than 3 friends. Also where is this individual brain thinking chatbots as friends are a thing to invest on? Which reality is that? Same guy that burned $4B per quarter on virtual reality for the same reason.

I can’t cancel Duolingo until the current subscription cycle ends, but yeah. I’m out.

The finding isn’t anything uncommon. What’s uncommon is that they admitted it.

How hilariously delusional. The VC role, specifically in what he refer as "getting the right investment" is possibly one of the easiest ones for AI to automate. The reason it's not happening it's that the same people that would need to finance it are the ones at risk, so they won't do it.
