I’ve started educating myself on politics because outside of Schoolhouse Rock and propaganda, my schools had a you’ll figure it out when you get older approach. We need to stop being ashamed of ignorance and do something about it. I’ll be diving into this book soon. Other recs ⬇️ #booksky #politics

If you think this bill is beautiful you should ask the stock market and the bond market. They both hate it.

the worst one is not on this list: A provision in the proposed spending bill would restrict the authority of federal courts to hold government officials in contempt when they violate court orders. Without the contempt power, judicial orders are meaningless www.justsecurity.org/113529/terri...

I wish journalists would stop framing political news as wins or losses for politicians or political parties. It’s an abrogation of our mission. Why do we keep doing this? Is the spending bill a win or loss for the American people? Who does it help? Who does it hurt? Is it sound policy? Fiscally?

Wannabe dictator acting like a dictator.

All I'll say about this morning's news is that you're about to hear more teeth gnashing clothes rending outrage & condemnation from the media & Western politicians than you have throughout a 19 month genocide that has just been kicked into overdrive

The FTC’s new investigation into Media Matters is just the latest example of the Trump regime targeting its critics. Media Matters is a liberal watchdog group that published research showing ads for major brands appearing next to antisemitic and hateful content on X.

Olszewski: We’re still learning in real time what this bill even includes. Taking out fees on gun silencers? Making tanning easier—while they’re gutting food benefits and taking away healthcare from people. They’re turning their backs on veterans. It also adds trillions to the deficit.

Jeffries: There are three big issues with the bill 1. It represents the largest cut to healthcare in American history. 2. It represents the largest cut to nutritional assistance in American history. 3. All of this is being done to enact the largest tax break for billionaires in American history.

A lot of pro-AI people will be like, “This technology constantly makes mistakes and adds unneeded steps to work, but you’ll have no choice but to use it for every facet of your life whether you like it or not” and then furiously wonder why some folks aren’t instantly on board with the pitch.

UPDATE: UnitedHealth deliberately changed patients to "do not resuscitate' so that they would be left to die in any medical emergency as they considered especially critically ill patients to be 'a waste of money' regardless of patient's desire to live.

"You read books, eh?" A 1949 red scare Herblock cartoon about pressures on teachers that hits hard once again.

Crockett: Right now, it seems like you don’t care about the constitution unless it’s the second amendment and that’s misinterpreted as well. There’s other amendments.. And we don’t get to just change it because our fearless leader says that he doesn’t like it

Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” is Project 2025 in legislative form. Here’s how it quietly turns a far-right wishlist into federal law: - Sec. 10008 - Expands work requirements for SNAP - Project 2025: Pushes “moral reform” to make low-income people work more for food assistance.

Crockett: That’s why they hired everybody from Fox because all they’re trying to do is put on a show.. I want us to refocus our attention on the American people and stop demonizing every person that ends up in ICE custody… *Applause* Van Drew: *bangs gavel*

“you should have a choice” means “we get to choose for you”

Scoop: CBS News pulled a "60 Minutes" segment that focused on job losses at the Internal Revenue Service hours before it was scheduled to air, replacing it with a feature story on Cajun music. Story: www.msn.com/en-us/news/o...

While Sesame Street’s move to Netflix is a major win for the iconic show, this solution is unique — it doesn’t address the broader crisis facing public broadcasting.

“Sorry, we don’t have enough money for universal healthcare, we’re too busy paying people whose family members tried to overthrow the federal government”

I don't know if there's ever been a culture more in love with charlatans than ours. "Success" defined entirely by how good you are at tricking people into giving you money. An entire country of aspiring slop merchants

This is HUGE. For those wondering why due process is essential for EVERYONE. This is why!

covid threw into high relief how many working class people are absolutely necessary to keeping society functional, and rather than that sparking a renewed commitment to an economy that rewards such workers, we've seen an elite backlash against even modest increases in their market power

I keep having to restate to comrades that Tru*p is broadly unpopular and that this is an ACTUAL opportunity. Even some organizers seem to be convinced that this guy is more popular than he is. His fans are not THE COUNTRY. Stop being propagandized by the terrible US mainstream media.

TIL that after the shooting death of CEO Brian Thompson UnitedHealthcare approved many life-saving medical procedures it has been holding out on because of sudden internal panic and public scrutiny. So, Luigi (innocent until proven guilty) probably saved more lives than he took.

I swear to gawd the MSM is never going to learn. They went from Biden has dementia to he was hiding cancer and almost none of them are talking about this. Stop telling me democrats have a messaging problem and start accepting the MSM is not our friend. thehill.com/homenews/hou...

Damn. Joe Biden was one of the BEST Presidents America has had in my lifetime, and I am SHATTERED to hear news of his diagnosis OF prostate cancer with metastasis to the bone. We were lucky to have this kind, thoughtful, and dedicated man step up for us when he did. PRAYERS ALL THE WAY UP. 🙏🙏

EXCLUSIVE: Jamie Raskin just exposed Trump’s plans to launch a fund for the “victims” of January 6 - but he means the violent thugs who attacked our Capitol. “That fund should go to the 140 officers and their families who were wounded.” Trump is rewarding traitors. This is SICK.

if the united states were treating plantation homes like dachau, where i went on a field trip in 5th grade, it would be different. the u.s. is not sorry about the way it has treated black people in any era. period. they use those places like amusement parks and don't even mention the history.

The fact that we don’t treat plantations like mass graves or concentration camps is because while seshes were made to stop enslaving, they were never made to believe what they did was wrong. They were just not allowed to do it anymore.

The pivot to blaming companies for the obvious consequence of your tariffs has begun

Slavery was like 4 humans from me ago and Jim Crow is 1 human from me. The past be a lot closer than people think especially if you can draw a straight line to aspects of your life today.

From THE VIEW FROM FLYOVER COUNTRY:

BREAKING: Moody’s has DOWNGRADED the United States’ credit rating from Aaa to Aa1 — the first-ever U.S. credit downgrade in the agency’s history. “We do not believe that material multi-year reductions in mandatory spending and deficits will result from current fiscal proposals under consideration.”

Sesame Street is officially UNION! Workers at Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind Sesame Street, have voted 55-19 to join @opeiulocal153.bsky.social Huge congrats to @sesameworkersunion.bsky.social! “We can officially say that today, May 15th, is brought to you by the letter U!”
