@nathanaclark.bsky.social you are definitely not a lone dissenting voice on Frank. Or for that matter, a lone, slightly less enthusiastic fan of Mbeumo. But he would be a massive upgrade on Kulusevski and Johnson at RFW, allowing us to sell both.

Love the moorish castle loft conversion you’ve done your rabbit.
comment in response to

He (Mbeumo) seems to work harder/better off the ball and sees more of the ball than Johnson, which when you context with the possession stats of both respective teams gives it even more weight. His xa90 is better than Kulusevski and 2x Johnson.

Nope. I can find a couple of Man Down podcasts, but not yours.

I just do not understand anyone insisting that is a “strong” squad. Looks very lacking in technical quality and midfield glue.

@smasterpiece.bsky.social There’s a huge difference between helping to close a deal or convince a player, to actually researching, scouting, analysing and recruiting a player.

I have no problem with your Ange out stance. But your “squad is good” stance is where I strongly disagree. Especially the attacking options.

Brentford are one of the lowest possession based sides in the PL.
comment in response to

And just to add. Whilst it was flawed and naive at times, at least it was identifiable, proactive and aggressive for the first 3/4. It’s only been the last 3-4 months where it’s turned into something awful. I have never watched Brentford and seen an identity.
comment in response to
post
Brentford haven’t played better football. And they weren’t playing 60 games with the injury crisis we had.
comment in response to
post
Significantly better squad? We had Gray and Davies at CB. A midfield everyone wants sold and a bunch of bumbling forwards. Frank has finished 9/16/10 and 3rd twice in Champ. I can understand letting Ange go but Frank is not an ambitious app. And Brentford have not played “better” football.
comment in response to
post
Punching out weight? This squad is bantamweight at best. We need someone who can get us punching way above its weight. There is no evidence Frank is that man.
comment in response to
post
A player who I haven’t paid much attention to when watching Wolves (which is basically twice when they played us) but who keeps popping up “decent” on data tweets for midfielders is Andre at Wolves. Have you looked at him?
comment in response to
post
Contrary to some statements, his team weren’t particularly possession dominant in the championship either. And whatever he’s done elsewhere - Denmark? - counts for less the Ange n Scotland or Japan.
He might turn out great, but there’s no real case can be made to support it.
comment in response to
post
People making the case for Frank are no better than those making a case for Ange. He’s proven no more than Ange has. Brentford were 16th last year after 9th the previous season. His football lacks identity at best and is dogshit at worst.

Re our conversation last week. Take out the back 4 and tell me who have the best front 6, us or West Ham?
comment in response to

I think it will be Son LF, Tel CF, Odobert acm
comment in response to

Kane and peak Son hitting 56 goal/assists between them doing most of the heavy lifting that year. Conte gave up on that squad the next season.
comment in response to
post
That’s 8th-12th.
comment in response to
post
I look at other teams squads and I do not think this team/squad has any right to believe it should be 8th, 9th or 10th. I do not think our squad is better than Brentford, Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham or Palace for example.
comment in response to
post
Son has always been hot/cold and good/bad at stuff but is now mostly off the boil. Udogie can defend but is useless in attack, Porro the opposite. VDV is quick but neither him nor Romero are elite rounded cb’s, and the back ups are ok (Danso) and terrible (Davies).
comment in response to
post
there’s a lot of delusion about the qualities and capabilities of this team/squad. Bentancur, Sarr, Kulusevski, Johnson, Richarlison. These are just really average/poor footballers. Bissouma, Solanke, Odobert, Tel, Bergval have some ability but it’s attached to flaws and/or inexperience
comment in response to
post
Who in this squad belongs in a regular top 4 team? I could listen to cases for some of our back 4 and Maddison (though some of them are arguable) , but ahead of that we’ve got nobody consistently even close to elite (as of now). I don’t hate them all, but realistically accept what they are right now
comment in response to
post
Talent we have out there? Ange deserves criticism for all his deficiencies, and they are playing their part, but the notion that this is a “good” squad is nuts. Deeply flawed senior players. Inexperienced kids, some of them pretty meh. This is the weakest squad we’ve had for a couple of decades.
comment in response to
post
Another of very many very good performances from Bissouma that seem to get forgotten because, like all our other midfielders, he makes the odd mistake. Staggering the shit him and Maddison get whilst that bumbling non entity Kulusevski can float around like a drunken turtle for months and be lauded
comment in response to
post
Bissouma was excellent tonight.
comment in response to
post
He’s worked hard and offered wander than Johnson, but some of his final balls/actions have been really poor, and he can’t use his left foot. Looking forward to Odobert and Tel coming on to run at tired legs.
comment in response to
post
Much much rather have Odobert and Moore out there than Richarlison and Johnson. That’s awful forward line.
comment in response to
post
Like any of the other players we’ve tried at 6 don’t fuck up. Bentancur (hiding when cb’s have ball and wayward passing) and Bergval (getting tagged over playing eg Wolves) have both cost us goals through.
comment in response to
post
With Moore, do you think it could be because he had something like glandular fever? Which is a very debilitating illness. Or even long covid?
comment in response to
post
We didn’t have much choice for much of the season. And even our first choice cb’s aren’t “great” at defending either. That said, accept that Ange’s system doesn’t help, and nor do the players ahead of them a lot of the time. I just don’t get the argument “we have Davies, we should be better”.
comment in response to
post
Apologies. My bad. But why would you think other teams would want a defender you don’t think is not great? Or think he’s good enough for us and our “ambitions”? I think he’s a terrible CB, lacking in all areas a cb shouldn’t lack.
comment in response to
post
Saying Davies is a “great” defender is an absurd position. He’s slow, not tall, not strong, technically ordinary and very one footed, can’t carry and his passing is meh/poor. By what metric is he great?
comment in response to
post
He absolutely wouldn’t get anywhere near starting for most teams n the PL, let alone decent PL teams. In all the years we’ve had him, nobody has shown any interest in buying him.
comment in response to
post
Maddison is probably the only player in this team right now who is a top 4 level footballer.
comment in response to
post
Kulusevski is a bumbling plodder and wouldn’t get near Arse, Liv, City or Chelsea. He produces the odd moment of something and months and months of utter dross. Poor decisions, poor executions slowly done.
comment in response to
post
Where do you think this squad should be based on its individual qualities and relative to this league?
comment in response to
post
I like Sokanke’s work rate and tactical discipline but he’s not elite at the other stuff.
comment in response to
post
Son’s our most productive player and he’s a shadow of the guy he was. Sarr is meh personified. Bissouma has elite ability but suspect mentality. Udogie is a poor defender and offers absolutely nothing in attack.
comment in response to
post
Even Romero and VDV aren’t brilliant defenders. We have bought some very inexperienced kids who look pretty unremarkable, plodders like Bentancur and Kulusevski who are woefully unsuitable to this league. Awful footballer Johnson.
comment in response to
post
Somewhere between 8-18. It’s an awful awful squad. You talk about Davies as an Int, he’s an Int for a low ranking int nation. He wasn’t good enough for a top 4 team when we bought him, let alone now. Danso is so ordinary, excels at nothing.
