What timeline is this?! Here to be informed and trying not to lose my mind. (I want to be nice, but F*** Trump, Musk, etc., ad nauseum, ad infinitum). I know, I vent and rant too much...I'm angry right now.

Normally thats called “vehicular homicide” isn’t it? So if Florida has a “stand your ground” law and someone *appears* to be threatening them with a weapon (a car in this case) does that mean DeSantis just gave the protesters the green light to stand their ground? I’m confused.

A huge difference is that actual GOP politicians use hostile and eliminationist rhetoric. Dem politicians do not.

Well said. Thank you. I could never explain this or summarize this as well as you have just done.

I’ve seen the state and its agents pretend that destroying a car in retaliation for them ripping up one’s community be described as unimaginable violence even as police officers with Nazi tattoos, gun down an increasing number of minorities every year.

Which is that some people deserve to die, and are not real Americans or human beings, and any kind of violence can be enacted against them to maintain the racial and gender hierarchy of this country, and that violence is encouraged from regular citizens to the federal government.

So I just have such a hard time playing this game of pretending that political violence here is just a neutral force that is emboldened by the assassination of politicians as much as it is by burning a Waymo car. Because I’ve lived here for a long time and have seen what this country believes.

They’ve bombed abortion clinics, killed doctors, sentenced women to death over unwanted pregnancies, killed trans and queer people for asking for rights. There’s literally no kind of political violence that I’ve not seen come from the right in this country, and it’s never engaged with seriously.

There has never been a time in my life where right wing political violence has been seen as anything serious or wrong. At the most they joke about the victims. Paul Pelosi was attacked in his home, and Vance and his cohorts turned into jokes about him being gay.

3/ unsurprisingly this is leading to lawmaker briefings around the country this morning. And for high level people only to trust law enforcement you already know etc.

2/ unimaginably dicey situation and guidance to have to give the public

More competitors than onlookers as the teams from various departments and units are preparing to engage on Feats of Strength. Halfhearted cheers from this crowd of...maybe 100 at this point

In case you aren't up to date on Trump Birthday news: the strength competition is scheduled at 9 (running late), then there's a fair with booths from sponsors like Palentir and Coinbase, and then there's the big beautiful parade at 6:30 PM (Sponsor info courtesy of @noturtlesoup17.bsky.social)

Been on a weird 2 year campaign that the press, and media writ large, is in and of itself a policy actor and not just a conduit or communication machine
