Heavy winds and storms this past week have meant a busy time for babies needing help! This little barred owl took a big tumble but will hopefully be able to be renested with its family (or another wild foster family) after a short bit of supportive care. 🪶

The local wild turkey toms sometimes come over and try to lure away our turkey girls, causing a lot of drama along the fenceline. Often the peacocks can't help but get involved, usually ending the kerfuffle when they show off their unfairly huge and glorious displays. 🪶

Attended a great seminar this week about helping build empathy for wildlife, hosted at the UMN Raptor Center. So many folks work hard to help wildlife in our state, it's rejuvinating to see and remember, especially right now. I got to say hi to some of the resident avian ambassadors as well!

Coming in hot! Pan is a Krider's red-tailed hawk, a naturally occurring color variation noted for being very light to almost white. Wild red-tailed hawks come in an amazing variety of colors, from nearly black to bright white and a whole scale in between.
