Nothing more fun than Father Nathan (@fathernathan.bsky.social‬) laying a righteous beatdown on collective bigotry. (...but seriously, my guy, wth are you still on Substack?)

Each day, I am looking at photos from Canada's history. Today, it is original Bluenose captain Angus Walters driving in the golden spike on the Bluenose II on Feb. 27, 1963. Bill Roué, designer of the original Bluenose, stands behind him. 📸Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic

You’d think Republicans in Congress would have more respect for their fellow Americans who no longer work but receive checks from the federal government.

I thought this was interesting/cool. Kind of up your alley, @annetheriault.bsky.social ? arstechnica.com/science/2025...

Thinking of a hero I knew and admired.

On this date in 1944, the Allies landed on 5 beaches in Normandy. The US (1944 population 138 million) hit Utah and Omaha. The UK (pop 45 million) assaulted Sword and Gold beaches. Canada (pop 11.8 million) took the lead at Juno beach. Of the five, Juno was the only one where all of D-Day's...

In my hometown of Halifax, which has its challenges like every other city but is, on the whole, a pretty good place. Ditto the university itself.

Ran over my own feet with the lawnmower yesterday, which was rather an adventure even among my accident-prone family. Unaccountably I still have all of my appendages (shout-out to my Canadian-made Kamik boots for taking one for the team). Told my GF I had almost become the Pobble...

In amongst all the excitement I fear many have missed this outstanding bit of trolling by Friedrich Merz. The Chancellor gifted Trump a gilded framed copy of his grandfather’s German birth certificate... reminding Americans that Trump is both the child and grandchild of migrants.

My Canadian university, Queen's, is offering TWENTY 4-year funded PhDs (40k CAD/yr) for a student of ANY citizenship who has been accepted at a top 100 US university but have had offer rescinded OR are reconsidering offer due to US policy. Details found here👇 www.queensu.ca/grad-postdoc...

This is great! I've just sent the link to a few teachers I know, and I've bookmarked it for my grandkids. With science under attack on all sides, right now, this is a wonderful way to reach kids and spark their curiosity while they're still young enough to be open-minded.

A great thread. Canadians would be well advised to note that most of this applies to the Conservatives as well, from the moment the Alliance completed its hostile takeover of the federal Progressive Conservatives.

Targeted advertising on social media like Facebook really does mean that different people heard different stories about what Trump’s platform was. That part is true.

A reminder that “America First” is a Ku Klux Klan slogan.

Cool article. I live where the Bay of Fundy population of Atlantic sturgeon (mentioned in the article) spawn in the nearby rivers, and served sturgeon (locally farmed) at my former restaurant. It's considered a healthy population, though climate change is a threat.

Gratuitous baby-bunny timeline cleanse for y'all. You're welcome.

Sign: "Spring Parasite Promotion!" Me: "...No thanks, I'm good..." (It was a veterinary office, so I knew what they meant, but it struck me funny just the same)

Hey, @georgetakei.bsky.social, did you know about this guy? Might be of interest, though the sequel is sadly familiar (yeah, we didn't do much better than the Americans at that point... )

Trump’s WH has consistently deployed the line “peace through strength” as their foreign policy messaging and it has literally always meant “letting the bigger dog in the fight do whatever he wants and scolding the smaller dog for not allowing himself to be eaten in the name of preserving peace”
