There's a whole lot of this throughout the entire Sun-Times Summer 2025 section, I can't find most of the people or publications referred to or quoted in any of this (some of the publications exist but i can't find the cited people in them)

Did you know that the Nazis had a word for crushing institutions and forcing them into alignment with their interests? They called it "Gleichschaltung"

yep, again: my wife's entire team was recently fired from her nonprofit hospital a month ago because the Trump administration ceased all Medicaid reimbursements at the beginning of the year 95% of the stories I read never mentioned Medicaid once

A cool thing about the Dems being absolutely useless institution-fuckers is that if they did gain control again, they'll look at the mutilated, broken remnants of the FDA and NSF and such as sacred and reject out of hand any suggestion they need to be changed.

It’s funny because I grew up as a Black kid during the 90s and if “people think we’re bad” was as determinative as it’s being depicted me and everyone I know should be dead by now.

The NYT Editorial Board comprises a little over a dozen writers and editors clustered around the American political center. Every editorial is a negotiation between them. By design, it cannot produce novel, interesting ideas outside that consensus. By design, it does not reflect public opinion.

Don’t give Democrats a dime until this guy is gone.

there's a scene in Conspiracy, a movie about the Wannsee Conference where the Holocaust was planned, in which one Nazi asks everyone in the room with a law degree to raise their hands almost the whole room does you should not be framing your objections to this regime in terms of what is legal.

“is my calculator horny?“ our tech columnist asks. “i entered 5318008 into it and turned it upside down. what i saw surprised me”

I thought I had lost all respect for Kevin Roose at this point but even now he surprises me. This is not journalism or analysis, it's marketing for AI companies. When this bubble bursts we cannot let this slide.

"to democratize art is not every person having a cute drawing made in seconds, to democratize art is every person having time and health to learn and make art if they chose to, and mainly to have the means to think and relate introspectively with art."

Hahahaha f all the way off

#OtD 26 Mar 1915 police in Sioux City arrested 14 members of the @IWW for holding street meetings to stop the union growing. IWW members came to the town to be arrested and filled the jails until eventually the police caved and allowed meetings workingclasshistory.com/2018/05/23/wch-e6...

Delighted to convene a new series at Resonance: The Journal of Sound and Culture (UC Press), where I’m founding associate editor. Articles written by the giant national team who collaborates to research sound history through the Library of Congress RPTF. online.ucpress.edu/res/article/...

people regularly ask me what they should do to prepare for the possibility of mass violence and civil unrest. we give this advice often on It Could Happen Here but this is my list of advice in no specific order:

The View from Nowhere fallacy - framing an argument from such a purely objective perspective or position that it doesn't actually represent reality

I’ve told this story before. But a few years back my daughter was invited to a birthday party of a fellow preschool kid who had a trans parent. They were both very matter of fact. “Hey Mike, welcome. beers in the bucket, hot dogs on the table, kids can go play in the bouncy house”

Due to recent events, this week's laserdisc rip is the Twin Peaks Visual Soundtrack. A Japan-exclusive disc from 1992 featuring Angelo Badalamenti's score set against a bunch of B-roll that a Japanese film crew captured of various places in Snoqualmie, Washington

the obsession with "looting" as if oil execs/politicians havent looted our planet & landlords arent about to loot what remains of LA is a level of stupidity that's unsalvageable... there's no saving your rotted brain. congrats on riding this hard for a system thats trying to kill you
