Fun fact: Dartmoor used to have diverse forests before they cut them down and repeatedly burnt and grazed them

Back in 2017 a known colony site of the New Holland Mice was incinerated By #FFMV in the Providence Ponds Flora and Fauna Reserve - and this is what it looked like (back then they called it an 'ecological burn') see link for the story www.geg.org.au/new-holland-... #GunaiKurnaiCountry

Industrial logging has left a devastating legacy across native forests in VIC with logged areas failing to regenerate & failure rate increased over time. #VicForests was legally obligated to regenerate the native forests it logged over the past 20 years. theconversation.com/logging-deva...

After the fires of 2019-20, wildlife hospitals were built, and emergency response protocols were put in place. And yet here we are, not failing due to lack of resources or knowledge, but due to a lack of moral compass by those charged with managing wildlife www.creativecowboyfilms.tv/earth/quo-va...

"Doing the same thing over and over again & expecting different results is insanity". Welcome to the insanity that is the Charters Towers Regional Council who are again trying to do the same thing they attempt just about every single year at the cost of 100s of 1000s $$$

Logging, thinning, and burning can increase forest flammability. 🔥 Old trees are natural bushfire buffers. 🌳 We must think holistically and be clever about forest fire management. Come along to Prof. Lindenmayer's webinar to learn more: ➡ www.victorianforestalliance.org.au/vfa_webinar_...

🦇 A little forest bat found its way into a house over the weekend looking for a spot to go into torpor. They left windows open all night but he didn't leave. Thanks to the member of public for calling this in and big thanks to Rescuer Catherine who assessed him and later successfully released

Easter Sunday 11.20am: Looking south over the Mitchell River flats near Bairnsdale. Smoke from #FFMV planned burns

Easter Sunday: Annual Koala Survey Sandy Creek. Hopefully no one else wanted to spend time in the Mitchell River National Park over Easter because it was covered in smoke from the Roaring Mag 1875 ha #FFMV fire lit up last Tuesday. #GunaiKurnaiCountry

NOW ON FIRE as of 19/04 🔥 @friendsofbats.bsky.social "#GunaiKurnaiCountry: Nowa Nowa-Pettmans Rd 604ha #FFMV planned burn in forest with significant mature banksia woodlands, old hollow trees, ephemeral swamps and a hot spot for Yellow bellied gliders."

“In 2018, a planned burn by local authorities was conducted in the Warrungup Spring reserve. Despite burning slowly as planned, it killed 17 of the 22 possums Dixon was monitoring.” theconversation.com/bad-fire-sci...

All the Yellow-bellied glider calls here were recorded this summer in this 631 ha planned burn. Recorders across many locations within this burn site for months & every site, every night had Yellow Bellies calling. It’s now scheduled to be burnt by #FFMV anytime within 10 days.

“Historical records show that allowing forests to mature for several decades without fire has the same hazard reduction effectiveness as annual prescribed burning (Zylstra et al. 2024)” Take note #FFMV arr.news/2025/04/15/d...

For too long, pollutants from mining & industry have been allowed to flow down the Latrobe River and into the Gippsland Lakes. These vital waterways are under pressure. An independent CSIRO environmental audit is needed to assess the damage. PLEASE SIGN! www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/...

700 koalas require euthanising by the Dept after a 2000ha bushfire? What happens in a planned burn - some PBs are just contained bushfires? For the record, koalas won't climb down a burning tree au.news.yahoo.com/alarm-as-koa...

We think this is criminal: A world biodiversity hotspot, loaded with cultural heritage. Drinking water for 24,000 people. 1875ha of old growth forest in Mitchell River National Park, lit up by #FFMV yesterday #GunaiKurnaiCountry 📷 EGCMN

2019/20 fires had an extreme impact on Glossies’ food supply. Young regenerating Black She-oaks take 5-20yrs to produce viable seed. Every she-oak stand in unburnt forest in East Gippsland is now critical for the survival of the Glossy population. www.geg.org.au/feathers-to-...

🔥#FFMV are about to burn this!! 1875ha BURN IN THE MITCHELL RIVER NATIONAL PARK. Burning this site will possibly breach the EPBC Act, the International Conservation of Nature responsibilities and Cultural Heritage Acts. Take action call authorities #GunaiKurnaiCountry
