this is the official position of the dhall language standard: dhall does not require any specific evaluation order and any evaluation order that produces the same result is standards-compliants (and dhall is total so any evaluation order will produce the same result)

the other reason that i want the user to still be able to escape characters inside of multiline strings is because i want them to, say, be able to escape what would otherwise be an interpolated string

the reason i use a starting newline for this is because Grace also dedents multiline strings, so requiring a starting newline ensures that there are no characters before the first newline in the multiline literals
example = "WE DON'T WANT CHARACTERS HERE
