They’re all too dumb (or think we’re all too dumb) to realize this was the exact pretext for “shock and awe” in 2003.

I fully believe it’s possible he’s both and no credit given. Should he prove to be antisemitic, it won’t be for this particular take (re: Israel)

Ok—but FWIW, I was replying to a comment regarding the "it doesn't have anything to do with Jews or Judaism it's about foreign governments" quip as being “spot on”, not the population facts take down.

Oh man before seeing your comment I almost forgot 8 years (/two terms) was even a thing.

Damn now that you mention it. There’s something to this I’m just not quite sure what it is.

To the folks saying he’s “smart” despite being horrible in a myriad of ways—yeah, I know. I guess my surprise stems from a lacking expectation that this correct take might be more commonly expressed by high profile “smart” people that i find to be less horrible, generally speaking.

Drives me batty that it’s Tucker Carlson of all people making this point so succinctly.

Right but neolibs wouldn’t shut it down independent of furthering their own interests globally—which arguably are more equitable/altruistic than those of the bad actors that might step in if allowed a vacuum of power/influence. Disclaimer: “more equitable/altruistic” ≠“equitable/altruistic”.

US cedes power to China then. Ah well. They seem more competent anyway.

Can confirm.

I mean sure. The point was leverage/power. The actual cutting off of the aid was not part of the neoliberal agenda—having that tap on is needed for said power. Trump is undoing the agenda. What’s your point again?
comment in response to

Yes, this—but I think there’s more to it. Something deeper. Something to do with a late 80’s/early 90’s HS band nerd ascension.

Can someone please explain the synergy between the 90’s swing revival and the 90’s ska revival? (I’m still thinking about this)

Counterpoint: millennials were never cool. They were already cringe to their elders (gen-x) and now they’re cringe to the younglings.

Having never watched swingers is a complete fluke. It was on my radar just never caught it.

I was a teenager when all that was happening. I remember going out regularly to a club that had a swing night in 96/97. I was hanging out with an older girl of legal drinking age—once she bought the first round, I’d be clear to buy beers at the bar. Good times.

I remember the swing revival vividly—but somehow missed BBVD, and inexplicably never saw Swingers.

Googling BBVD to see if that was real—I was 80% sure you had created a portmanteau of Voodoo Glow Skulls and Cherry Poppin’ Daddies.

I understand the recent developments that lead to the lib advantage (I.e., the trifecta of JT stepping down, Carney leading/communicating competently, plus Trump), but what happened late summer 2023 that had the cons spike so high in win probability (again, before tanking recently)?

Spot on. It’s just sad that the root cause analysis on why they want a king simply boils down to: “own the libs” (and/or, maybe more generously: to be in on the grift)

Dow still down 2,000pts since “Liberation Day”. Ordinary folk heavily invested in 401k with no option but to grin and bear it are getting rinsed while day trading insiders are having a banner day. Quite the scam.
