local black magic-practicing pagan witch chiming in to say that it is also a good sign that all the other sisters & brothers & others i've met thus far feel that even if we still want to burn the place down, this is still the closest they can possibly come to moving in a positive direction

a lot of the most heinous things just stopped happening *in the imperial core*. they got foisted onto the global south and marginalized countries, facilitated in backroom meetings and proxy wars and coups by the very same governments who were promising to end said exploitation at home.

what are those things, because if your first example is "slavery" then... no, that's still happening, through (overwhelmingly privatized and for private corporations) prison labor, human trafficking, visa theft, strongarming people into working to have access to medical care, and more.

i think this place is also a doomed endeavor tbh, the fediverse and other decentralized platforms are less doomed because the infrastructure is stronger and less beholden to inherently noxious algorithms but they're insular, hard to expand, and don't bridge gaps to tech circles

it's unfortunate that the reach of these platforms makes engaging with them a necessity for marginalized peoples and especially marginalized artists but that doesn't make said platforms *not* actively and systematically inhumane to their users

let's just do that without waiting for the captured opposition party that also serves billionaire and military-industrial donors and just does it with a polite liberal face instead of outright corporatism & christofascism to do it. get involved in mutual aid groups in your local area
