Oh, I love horns as well. It's just that sometimes I specifically crave acoustic piano trio music. I'm sure I've listened to a couple of records by Get the Blessing but it must've been at least a decade ago. I should revisit them! Mammal Hands is another band you might like, coming up on my list!

I really like them. They sort of picked up where Esbjörn Svensson Trio (tragically) left off. No other band could fill that void for me.

Jimmy James is in a new organ trio called Parlor Greens now. That similar The Meters vibe is there. I've been championing their stuff on my challenges with little success 😄

Definitely, more people should know about it! I started the last 10 with this record on purpose—the rest of my list will feature some of the same artists, keeping with the color theme. I saw that you posted Red Whine by Ezra Collective so I took that one out, but I have the remaining 9 covered.

The funny thing is, his parts were overdubbed after the songs were recorded. But they just clicked musically, understood each other perfectly. The live album Shadows and Light is also fascinating. You hear him all the time, he just refuses to fade into the background.

Six-word horror story: "The octobass is out of tune."

How I Met Your Mother had an episode back in 2007 where a car's radio was stuck playing this song over and over again. It was either this or complete silence on long road trips. A friend and I tried to recreate that experience and listened to this 100+ times over 7 or 8 hours. It was glorious.

@indigobunting.bsky.social rounds them up in a post before they start, and will probably make one of those for July. Looks like there are still a few coming up in June.

I heard about this one because I did the last month's version about places. That one I probably heard about in a post that listed all the major upcoming challenges for May. Restricting myself to green for the first half - that one I created for myself. Started as a joke but just couldn't stop.

My favorite would have to be "Jockey Full of Bourbon." If aliens visited Earth and demanded answers, I would use it as an example of songwriting excellence.

Bunch of people thought it was going to be Jersey Girl or Downtown Train. Just like how they thought it was going to be Big Yellow Taxi or A Case of You for my list. People aren't very kind on deep cuts. Especially when you have no following. Thanks for turning me on to this track!

All I wanna know is who was the first in sampling The Edge by David McCallum - Snoop Dogg or Emperor Penguin?

I can't believe I made it through the whole thing without gushing over Jaco's use of harmonics and chords on the fretless. It was a deliberate choice to shut up and let the lyrics speak for themselves. As usual, many thanks to @geodrew.bsky.social & @olgalovesyuri.bsky.social for hosting.

It's to do with the video rather than the film. I think it's a case of trying to circumvent Youtube's copyright policy. The BPM is the same, the key is higher. My digital copy of Down by Law features the unchanged version.

I had no idea Rick Rubin produced a Gogol Bordello album. Great live band. They were quite popular here in the mid-2000s. Probably because we're all closely familiar with Balkan music. Years of free public concerts by Goran Bregovic to thank for that.

I'm heavily biased towards Hissing and Hejira. I could've just filled this entire list with those two, but I tried a different approach for a more balanced list. No hard and fast rules for these, anyway.
