I think that the changes have mostly become less obvious, and so that creates the perception that it has slowed, but I'd also note that the Internet is outside your stated time range and has created an immense shift in what it's like to be human.

As a research background psychotherapist, I think I just complain about them. Useful for population trends I guess, but dangerously misleading for individuals

This is of course on top of my worry about becoming unemployed because some f#ing tech bros thought it would be a good idea to replace any mental job ever with a nuclear power plant connected to a data center so that the only work left for most of us will be waiting tables and harvesting crops

And you may ask what the problem is, why not have cheaper more accessible therapy? Because disconnection from actual humans is one of the big problems facing us all right now, and replacing the professional connection people with AI will make that worse.

And they'll get around regulations by putting some bullshit disclaimer at the bottom that they aren't actually therapists, but the public is already trying to use chat GPT for therapy, people will gobble that shit up.

Because I don't believe for a moment that those AI systems aren't going to use the transcripts they're recording to make a bunch of AI therapists and then undercut and cut us all out, and I have zero confidence that those AI will be actually competent at the job.

I think a part I haven't seen in the comments yet is that people don't like being moralized to, doubly if that moral would conflict with their current behavior. They often consume media to be entertained and don't think deeply about the message, so to force that thought and moral is uncomfortable

But if no one can find it, is the website even real? Search engines are terrible these days and I can pretty much guarantee that even if a popular band has their own website it's not going to be in Page 1 of the Google search results for that band.

Coming? It's here, and it's part of the enshittification of the Internet

1 and 3. There used to be mechanical calculators, made of gears with no electricity, and I would similarly say those calculators had no understanding of math. The successful results were something that happened by design, not by the machine understanding anything.

The whole bill needs to be shut down, not given little bandaid size amendments

Does your therapist not know that you're kinda a big deal?

I'd definitely put this under "reasons a right left dichotomy is an oversimplification that doesn't really hold up to close scrutiny"

I thought about that, but I think rule 34 already cemented our awareness of that one

That most people lack sufficient information literacy to recognize truth from fiction.

Can I commission an "old them" starter pack?

Without looking anything up? That basically no hires are happening to any major agency, as many in process hires as DOGE/Trump could cancel have been cancelled, and a similar firing/layoff spree is occurring

Just searched for them and couldn't even find the account, good job everyone

Nah, it's definitely both.

They suck and aren't useful.... At many of the things they get shoehorned into doing. If I need to analyze proteins for cancer markers? They're great, but if I need a law document or a literature review or a customer service chat, they're counterproductive

She's not a person in power. There are people currently in power whose decisions today have actual current consequences. Those people and their actions are greater priority than any shoulda, coulda woulda
comment in response to post
Really? Of all the things to be angry about right now this is your priority?

*The public use of LLM's for random bullshit like making dogs toddlers is a waste of massive amounts of electricity, computing power, rare metal resources, and is contributing to both climate change and the degradation of information

I don't know about simplest, but it's definitely one a major part of our culture is built around.

My rebuttal to B is that even the best teachers will find students who aren't willing to learn. Certainly it's been my anecdotal experience that there's a correlation between education and certain ideologies I consider morally correct (for example tolerance)

Is this your cry for help? Are you kidnapped and trying to call for help without tipping off your kidnappers?

Certainly some people do like their yards, but literally the only reason I own a too big for me house with a yard I don't care about is because it would cost me twice as much to have a nice sized condo that has reasonable sound proofing and this was the most affordable way for me to have privacy
