That’s kind Scott. I probably should say “potential successor” as, of course, the voters decide!

Of course we will be ramping up our work, talking to people, answering queries and following up all the many many contacts we’ve made right up until 10pm on election day

As a charity all our money goes into our charitable objectives: improving the river and environs, educating people about it, engaging with communities along its banks etc.

Understood. But the issues in Aviemore precede the national park. I was involved in a study in 1990 that looked at the problem of second and holiday homes in Speyside, for example, and the commercial development pattern stems from the 1960s and 1970s. Camper vans and airbnbs aren’t unique to parks!

Well, I’m off to the Machars on Friday so maybe I’ll find out the word on the streets.

I’d like to think that it was in recognition that the Tories stood on a 2021 manifesto commitment (albeit for Parliament) “we would create Scotland’s third national park in Galloway” and have resigned in response to their party’s complete u-turn. But maybe that’s not it….

I’ll enjoy looking at that. As the SPAD at the time for that Bill and working 14 hour days, 7 day weeks to get it prepared and through Parliament in 3 days, the Court’s robust dismissal of the appeal was pleasing.

Following this afternoon's disappointing news about the proposed Galloway National Park, we hope that the next Parliament will work to rebuild confidence that NPs are a key way that Scotland's finest environments can be managed for the mutual benefit of residents, visitors and nature.
