I regard myself as a software engineer, but since most of the important people in my life don't know what that means, I tell them I'm a coder. That raises all sorts of other issues, so I say developer, although that doesn't say it either. So whatever!

Fascinating for an outsider like myself. Looks like Pres Trump will be the most consequential US president in the the past 50 years. I suppose the detail lies in the consequences which is yet to unfold and its hard to say exactly how it pans out. Wild times ahead, for the entire world.

Sure, but I don't detect any major diversion from the "amusing yet oversimplified" analogy.

That's how they roll under the dictatorship of the fabulously rich, the podcast bros and the cryto-schemesters.

Except there is no need for this whatsoever. Russia posts no significant challenge to the US in the current unipolar setup, economically or militarily. Elevating Russia seems more transactional than anything else. Voluntarily giving up its influence sphere makes the US the biggest loser in a trios

Joost Vd Westhuizen snorted himself silly, but was able to ride it, going down as one of the best ever. Hansie Cronje disgraced himself taking bribes from bookies. They made a celebratory movie about him. Many in the media relentlessly derided Jantjies because he wasn't "cut out to be a Springbok".

Is it real or is it Memorex? Sorry, had another's 70's flashback. Perhaps it's the 90's (Matrix) that holds truer analogies ;-) All kidding aside because it ain't a laughing matter!

Not sure whether it's a reality show or a soap opera or even a telenovela. Could be all of it in one.

That a financial services company can raise this much in a lower-middle income country says a lot about its social structure.

Write about you own South African "royals". There's more than enough salacious content.

Like a dying sun, the only superpower in the world is entering it's Red Giant phase. It'd be interesting to see how it's White Dwarf stage turns out, but I will probably not be around.

Start with Denmark and follow the breadcrumbs from there to see the connection.

You're looking more and more like an immigration agency for Aus and New Zeeland, promoting an emigration mentality in South Africa. You're not stating that SA's net tax revenue has actually increased by 3.4% despite the leavers, who have high cost of living waiting for them on the other side.

Amazing how the same story can be told a thousand times over and still resonate with so many when there are numerous other current events about human brutality around the world. Seems like there can only be one winner in the Sympathy Olympics.

Yes. It's a term that's supposed to be all-encompassing, but it doesn't really say.

If you want your investigation into fraud to misfire, give the fraudsters a heads-up about your investigation and make sure they have enough time to cover their tracks. Morons

Yep. The flip side of this happens when proposed solutions don't address the problem at all, or worse, when "solutions" target non-existing problems.

Certainly an industry that's heavily exposed to fraud risk, but I don't think it is massively increased by tech. In fact there is a strong case that be made for tech provide better mitigation against these risks. I reckon that costs and convenience are strong candidates for innovation.
