Overall, this keeps the league competitive and exciting. Every game matters. Every team fights. And the draft lottery? Still thrilling, just with the right incentives. What do y’all think? Time to fix the NBA. Tag ur favorite NBA podcasters

Counterpoints? Let’s address them: • “Bad teams NEED the #1 pick to rebuild!” → They can still draft high, but now they have to actually build instead of just bottoming out. • “Won’t this create a middle-class loop?” → No. This system rewards TEAMS THAT TRY. That’s how dynasties are really built.

This system makes the entire season meaningful. Every game matters. No more ugly losing streaks by teams intentionally shutting down their best players for “draft positioning.”

But what about bad teams? • They still get a high pick. • They’ll actually have to develop players instead of relying on tanking. • No more teams coasting to the bottom for a free superstar—it’s all about effort.

Imagine a world where a team that fought for a play-in spot but barely missed out could land the next superstar. That team instantly becomes better next season, leading to a stronger, more balanced league.

What does this do? • It kills tanking. Teams won’t lose on purpose when finishing one spot out of the playoffs gives them the best shot at a franchise player. • It boosts competition. Teams fight hard all season to either make the playoffs or get a top pick.

So how does it work? • The team that finishes just outside the playoffs has the highest odds of getting the #1 pick. • The worse your record, the lower your odds. • The worst team? They still get a lottery pick, but they have the SMALLEST chance at #1.

Instead of giving the best draft odds to the worst teams, we flip it: The teams that just missed the playoffs get the BEST lottery odds. This keeps the excitement of the draft lottery while rewarding teams that actually compete.
