I think Newsom is just spouting this because Pritzker (Illinois) made him look like a chump by being very vocal about supporting LGBTQ+ and having proof of his sincerity.

A person's identity is valid and can not be invalidated by something or someone external.
That's my take, as a Non-Binary person who looks like a normie dude most of the time, but also enjoys dressing hyper-femme. Those things are external and do not determine my core identity. 😊
