Seen too many examples of people adding ARIA to use as a locator for testing because of this guidance. The idea that using ARIA for attributes for testing will improve accessibility has not been proven considering errors with ARIA are going up (according to webAIM million).

The goal is to move past the bare minimum and level up from just compliance to removing more barriers and reduce friction.

This course covers WCAG v2.2 and includes level AAA guidelines. That’s right, I don’t just stop at the bare minimum level AA conformance. I explain AAA guidelines to push you to understand if and how you can support them. Use what you can and discard anything that doesn’t apply to your situation.

Be patient with some forms of ableism if you're empowered to. Correct those who have shown that they can take correction. Bring people along on this journey to being fairer and more inclusive. But sometimes – often – people want Disabled human beings to be unseen or fucking dead. Don't forget it.

Similar story about a patent. I just literally said “Oh, I actually have a patent for that” and the person just laughed and proceeded. So, I don’t know either lol 🤷🏽♂️

“Use HTML first!” is my preference. It gives clear direction on what to do. “Don’t use ARIA” can be interpreted as “oh, I won’t do anything to my Frankenstein span button.”

In the UK disabled women are nearly twice as likely to experience sexual violence than non disabled women.
This is why I’m asking men to be aware of how they approach a situation where a disabled woman may need assistance.
Be the aware safe nice helpful dude in your approach, actions & words.
