What's so dumb about this is that the operation, in pure logistical terms, was genuinely impressive. But when you make a ridiculous claim like this, it's just obviously false and undercuts any credibility. (For example, there were 7,000 vessels involved in D-Day, after a brilliant deception plan).

Keir Starmer really does not have the get out of jail card of sending a naval task force south to defend some bit of territory invaded by foreign forces. Maybe he could try & entice the Spanish into invading Gibraltar!

#BBC Question Time coming from St Andrews tonight. Five person panel including Thomas Kerr, Reform councillor for Glasgow (originally elected as a Tory): platforming a party which has never elected a single representative in Scotland. But no space for Greens or Lib Dems. #bbcqt

Pensioners are not paid "benefits". They are not paid welfare or social security. They are paid a pension. If the UK is ever to repair its broken social contract we need to get language correct. And not describe everything in the language of the anti-state right-wing.

Labour isn't Working. Resolution Foundation predictions for this UK Parliament show a minuscule rise in living standards overall, wider inequality & the poor taking the biggest hit. If this is the case: what is the point of this Labour Government? #c4News

The Starmer project is in trouble & the answer won't be found throwing Morgan McSweeney under the bus. The problem is: a) Starmer; b) Labour as a party; c) the wider centre-left project across the West. Even if Starmer were a bit better what does Labour & the centre-left stand for?

Both Labour & Tory are in crisis. This manifests itself in problematic leadership (Starmer/Badenoch) which in both cases seems clueless to the challenges people face. But this is a symptom of the hollowing out of Lab & Tories & their worldviews, ideologies & stories they tell abt the UK & world.

When are the UK political classes going to have the courage to talk about taxing the rich & levying taxes on wealth rather than struggling working people? We have endured 45 years of this discredited economic dogma & still politicians cling to it.

Is it time for full-on "regime change" in Starmer's Labour? While the West has invoked such rhetoric one defiant hold-out against the notion has long been British Labour who plot against leaders but rarely if ever overthrow them. Could Starmer be so bad that finally changes?

The political comedian Daniel Hannan just never lets up with his brilliant satire of hard Brexiteer fanatical free market anti-state dogma. All showing their lack of self-reflection or any sense of responsibility for the damage such a politics has inflicted upon the UK.

Labour as the leading party of labour just; Reform as the leading party of the retired pensioner class. WM voting: Amongst People with Jobs: LAB: 27% RFM: 24% LDM: 16% CON: 15% GRN: 12% Amongst the Retired: RFM: 36% CON: 28% LDM: 14% LAB: 13% GRN: 4% Via @yougov.co.uk 29 May - 18 Jun.

The right say David Lammy is the worst UK Foreign Sec ever. Here are some of the disastrous Foreign Secs in 20th & 21st c: 1 Selwyn Lloyd (1955-60: Suez) 2 Boris Johnson (2016-18) 3 Dominic 'on holiday' Raab (2019-21) 4 Lord Halifax (1938-40: pro-appeasement) 5 Samuel Hoare (1935: pro-appeasement).

Kemi Badenoch really cares abt the victims of grooming gangs. When it involves her bashing the Labour government opportunistically. NOT it seems when she could do something about it in government including as minister for women. So the evidence says. #PrivateEye

BBC Scotland going out of its way to reinforce cultural stereotypes.

As Scotland's self-appointed ambassador to the UN points out himself he did stand for George Galloway's Workers Party in last year's election. This when Galloway was pro-unionist & anti-independence. Clearly party politics are not cut out for such folk.

Daniel Hannan: a man who maybe should back away from future forecasting & political commentary. But has all the skills required in the UK to be a legislator for life accountable to no one.

The #AbolishHolyrood gang would have to call a referendum to ever win their case which would be a collosal waste of time given they would lose big time. And if per chance they won they would make Scottish independence inevitable.

Funny enough I really don't trust the analysis of Alastair Campbell on the West's neverending wars in the Middle East & the fraudulent cases made continually to go to war & invade countries in the region.

Nine year ago to the day the Daily Mail celebrated this act of self-harm: diminishing & impoverishing the UK. Add to it all an exit without a plan or apology from its leading advocates.

Where next for Starmer's Labour authoritarianism? Goaded & encouraged by Tory & Farage authoritarianism. After banning Palestine Action who is next? Just Stop Oil? And the inexorable march towards compulsory ID cards in a UK state where we have ZERO fundamental rights?

The UK Govt will not say whether Israel is breaking international law in Gaza. Nor will it say if it believes the US attack on Iran broke international law. But the UK Govt is happy to assist Israeli attacks on Gaza via RAF planes from Cyprus.

The current Tory message seems to be help us clear up the mess of the UK that the Tories created. Until last year the Tories were in office for 32 out of the past 45 years (71% of the time 1979-2014). 1/2

Labour & Tory are in deep trouble & decline. But we should talk abt PEAK Reform. Despite Lab & Tory problems there is a ceiling on Reform support for now of 30%. Which they won't get at an election. Why? Because Farage & Reform are not POPULAR either. Politics is a plague on all your houses.

Farage and Reform have been out in force today peddling eye-catching, simplistic policies: all to aid huge tax cuts to the super rich. Today: the Britannia Card. The last Britannia Card was the Britannia Music Club which went bust.

George Galloway used to be pro-Scottish self-determination: "Scotland's right to self-determination includes the right to decide how to exercise that right. To deny it would be to say that of all the nations of the world today we had no national right to self-determination." Radical Scotland, 1983.

Do you want the US to be at war with Iran? Overall US respondents: 5% Yes; No: 85% Democrats: 3% Yes; 92% No Independents: 7% Yes; 83% No Republicans: 6% Yes; 80 No. Via YouGov America

The shameless nature of the charlatan Boris Johnson. Why was Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe in prison so long? Because Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary carried on like the blustering bullshit merchant he is who cares not one iota for detail, diplomacy or others.

"Israel is not threatening, bombing and attacking its neighbours. It is Iran" says Mary Beth Long making the US case for attacking Iran. "But it literally is Israel that is threatening, bombing and attacking its neighbours" says Krishnan Guru-Murthy on #c4news.

Kemi Badenoch aligning herself with the neo-conservative view of the world. One which has led the West's neverending wars in the Middle East, regional instability, failed states & the deaths of hundreds of thousands.

The inexorable march of authoritarianism, attack on freedom & free speech continues apace in the UK. A watershed moment in which those self-declared tribunes on the right who say they are pro-free speech such as the Free Speech Union are silent or complicit. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/j...

War is not a sport. Or signing up to some supporter's club.

Not exactly #BBC public service broadcasting at its finest. As the Israel-US-Iran conflict deepens #PoliticsLIve has NOT one foreign policy expert among its four guests. And has Sarah Vine plugging her terrible book 'How Not To Be A Political Wife' (which I have sadly read).

The post-war decline of UK PM popularity. From the highs of Churchill, Macmillan, early Wilson & early Blair to the seismic lows of Brown, May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak & now Starmer (who is less than a year in but going low quickly). There is a long-term trend of decline.

The new voice of Trumpian intervention from neo-con John Bolton. Talking on Saddam Hussein's embryonic nuclear weapons programme & links it to Iran today he says: "This is why the Iraqi regime had to be overthrown and this is why the Iranian regime has to be overthrown." @skynewsrss.bsky.social

"If the US intervenes, the international order will crumble further. If the US does not intervene the international order will crumble. The 'international order', like the so-called 'international community', is an ideological construct constantly redefined to suit the policies of the West."

This is an overstatement of Starmer's Labour & their intent & scale of victory in 2024. Starmer's Labour at best could have called time on Tory incompetence & dogma. But they have failed on the first & have no story, values or project on the second. Hence they been eaten by the right-wing machine.

At this moment of international crisis Kemi Badenoch offers uncritical support to Israel for its ongoing war crimes, genocide & war with Iran. This is not leadership in the UK national interest but a blank cheque to Netanyahu.

The impotence of the UK govt on display after the attack on Iran. Govt minister Jonathan Reynolds refuses to say whether the UK govt sees the American attack as legal or illegal. This is a UK govt which has abdicated its role on the international issues of the day. #bbclaurak
