The assassination in Minnesota hit close to home for @gabbygiffords.bsky.social. On @npr.org's All Things Considered, Gabby and our Executive Director Emma Brown talk with NPR's Mary Louise Kelly about survival, strength, and the urgent work ahead to stop political violence before it starts

NEW: Texas passed $2 million in bipartisan funding for community violence intervention programs. We’re proud to have helped secure this investment for lifesaving programs—a first of its kind in Texas, and a critical step forward for gun safety in red states.

This weekend, @ncgovernor.bsky.social vetoed the NRA-backed permitless carry bill 👏👏👏 This bill would have allowed people who have never passed a background check to carry hidden, loaded guns in public crowds which is a measure that is proven to increase violent crime.

NEW: Gun lobby exposed for targeting donations to candidates in districts that recently had fatal school shootings, according to @stanforduniversity.bsky.social. Clearly, the gun industry would rather protect their profits than keep our kids safe.

Proud to stand alongside women leaders from all corners of our country in this moment. We’re speaking with one voice to make it clear: there is no place for political violence in our communities. Together, we will demand - and create - a safer democracy.

Proud to join powerful women to call for an end to political violence in this country. Let’s honor Melissa and Mark Hortman with action.

I am proud to stand with gun violence prevention leaders @gabbygiffords.bsky.social @krisbrown.bradyunited.org @ferrellzabala.bsky.social @amyklobuchar.com & so many other female champions to call for ending political violence & armed intimidation!

One week ago, Melissa Hortman and her husband were taken from us in a horrific act of political violence. Political violence is never justified. Armed extremism is a threat to democracy. Honor Melissa by rejecting division—and choosing courage.

As Minnesotans grieve Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, leaders must work to prevent political violence. We agree with Governor Walz: Keeping guns out of the Capitol will keep our public servants safe.

The Trump admin will shut down the national LGBTQ+ youth suicide hotline in 30 days 🚨🚨🚨 This comes as SCOTUS upheld a TN law prohibiting medically necessary gender-affirming care for minors. These attacks are beyond cruel & endanger the LGBTQ+ community. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/18/w...

BREAKING: The Supreme Court just upheld a dangerous Tennessee law prohibiting gender-affirming care for minors. This shameful decision threatens the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ young people across the country, and leaves trans youth even more vulnerable to gun suicide.

Today marks ten years since nine people were murdered and one was injured in the hate-fueled attack at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Our hearts are with the victims, survivors, and their loved ones as we work to keep our houses of worship safe from gun violence.

Political violence of any kind has no place in our democracy. The targeted attacks in Minnesota were heartbreaking and horrifying.

Dangerous gun lobby bills FAILED in Florida ‼️ As the FL legislative session officially comes to a close, we applaud the Republican and Democrat lawmakers who successfully fought back against Gov. DeSantis’ attempts to pass open carry, repeal red flag laws, and lower the age to buy firearms.

We’re excited to welcome over 900 experts, advocates, and practitioners at the 2025 Community Violence Intervention Conference!

Easy, unfettered access to guns makes political violence all the more dangerous. It devastates families and tears at the seams of our democracy. We can’t keep letting this happen. Our public servants—and all Americans—deserve better.

One person was critically injured in a shooting yesterday during a protest in Salt Lake City. No one should fear gun violence—not in their homes, not in their schools, and not while marching in their communities. But shootings like this happen far too often. Our leaders must take action.

We are heartbroken to hear that our partner and friend, Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were killed in a targeted shooting. We condemn this violence in the strongest possible terms and are keeping State Rep. Hortman’s family in our hearts during this tragic time.

We are proud to join gun safety champions to fight back against the GOP effort to flood our communities with gun silencers.

Today marks nine years since 49 people were killed and 53 others were injured at Pulse Nightclub in a targeted attack against LGBTQ+ and Latino communities.

Today, @repjamesclyburn.bsky.social reintroduced a bill to close the Charleston Loophole, which enabled the racist attack at Mother Emanuel AME Church 10 years ago. This gap in the law allows gun dealers to proceed with a sale if a background check isn’t completed in 3 days. Congress must act NOW.

11-year-old Julian Pena was shot while playing basketball with his brother outside their home in Houston, Texas. His mother no longer feels safe in their own home. No child should have to grow up like this. These senseless shootings must stop.

NEW: When states weakened their gun laws, more kids lost their lives to gun violence, according to a study by @jeremyfaust.bsky.social at @harvardmed.bsky.social. This further proves what we know to be true: Strong gun laws save lives.

Happy birthday to our fearless leader, @GabbyGiffords! Her strength and heart inspires us every day in the fight to end gun violence, and our entire team couldn’t be more honored to work under her leadership. Join us in sending Gabby love and wishing her the very best day!

The vast majority of gun owners know that we can save lives and protect our rights at the same time. That’s why GIFFORDS Gun Owners for Safety are wearing orange across the country in support of #GunViolenceAwarenessMonth and urging their leaders to take action NOW.

America’s gun violence crisis impacts each and every one of us. It’s unacceptable. On #GunViolenceAwarenessDay, Americans nationwide #WearOrange to honor every victim and survivor of gun violence and demand their leaders take action to save lives.

Breonna Taylor should be celebrating her 32nd birthday today with friends and family. But five years ago she was shot and killed in her own bed by police officers. Our hearts are with Breonna’s family. She should still be here. We’ll always fight for accountability in her name.

NEW: SCOTUS shuts down Mexico’s lawsuit against the gun industry, but refuses to grant gun companies the unfettered immunity they were after. The gun industry is NOT above the law, and we’ll keep fighting to support victims as they seek justice.

NEW: Battleground voters—including Trump supporters—strongly reject GOP efforts to make gun silencers easier to get. Silencers make shootings deadlier, and voters know it.

🚨 “GIFFORDS has a new poll from Senate battleground states showing that GOP efforts to make gun silencers more easily available is deeply unpopular…large majorities of voters — including voters for President Donald Trump — don’t want to see that happen”

A children’s dance recital should be filled with joy — not gunfire. Instead, one person is dead and a community is traumatized. How many more of our kids have to lose their innocence to gun violence before we demand change?

Jonathan Joss should still be alive—celebrating Pride Month with his husband and loved ones. When hate is armed and gun laws are weak, lives are stolen. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and fans. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

BREAKING: SCOTUS declined to hear a major challenge to Maryland’s assault weapons ban. Once again, courts are letting gun laws stand—because they work. These laws keep dangerous weapons away from dangerous people, prevent violence & protect our families. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/02/u...

In Ohio, police officers are paired with social workers to stop violence before it happens—and it's working. Now, that funding is at risk. Instead of backing strategies that save lives, Congress is abandoning the very tools police say they need. www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...

We proudly stand with the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate your joy, strength, and brilliance. At GIFFORDS, we fight alongside you—against hate, gun violence, and discrimination—so you can live freely, fully, and safely. 🏳️‍⚧️ 🏳️‍🌈

This #GunViolenceAwarenessMonth, we honor those we’ve lost by fighting for a future where everyone can live free from fear. Every story shared, every action taken brings us one step closer to #EndGunViolence. Change is possible. And we’ve seen it.

Sig Sauer, maker of many popular guns, pushed for a New Hampshire bill to dodge accountability—while facing lawsuits over its unsafe firearms. The bill would give the gun industry even more protection and make the public less safe. This isn't just wrong—it's dangerous. www.wbur.org/news/2025/05...

When gun violence is the leading cause of death for kids and teens, rolling back commonsense gun laws is not leadership — it's failure.
