After finishing #Andor, I went on a #RogueOne + #PrequelTrilogy marathon, and I have to say: 1. The prequel trilogy (PQ) did *not* age well. TBH I'm mainly drawn to the aesthetics when watching movies; the PQ's CGI must have been a treat to watch back when they were a technical achievement, but […]

Anyone going to #LibreGraphicsMeeting ? :)

Kind of sad that the phrase "open access" has been appropriated by academic publishers so that you can't use it to mean "free for everyone". For that, you have to use the phrase "diamond open access", which in itself sounds like marketing lingo... #OpenAccess

Trying my hand at custom #svg -based #webcomponents :) #webdev This is part of a work-in-progress math-related blog post, can you guess what it's for? :)

Here's the second half of my blog post series about solving a physical puzzle using #haskell ! https://glocq.github.io/en/blog/20250505/

My second blog post! I got a physical puzzle and couldn't solve it by myself, so I did it in #haskell :) https://glocq.github.io/en/blog/20250428/

What if they made a game where you're stuck in a time loop and you try to uncover why, and at some point there's a big reveal and you find out the reason you're in a time loop is you've been experimenting with memory alteration and time travel so you could forget #OuterWilds and play it anew

I just released the first version of hworld, the #haskell bindings I wrote for the World library. Given a recording of a voice, it allows you to compute a "vocoded" representation that is easy to manipulate to perform actions such as: - pitch shifting - simulation of whispering - machine […]

Whelp. Just got let go. They actually disabled my account while I was in the exit interview. Corporate IT is _cold_. Anyway, I guess I'm looking for a new position maybe even be #FediHired ? I have to live in Cove, AR with my disabled family, so it will probably need to be 100% remote. I'd […]

::)

Fun fact: const const const = const #haskell

I'm watching Andor, and I have to say I really like the Star Wars universe's worldbuilding, aesthetically. I like that it has never taken itself seriously¹, and still everything is full of thought-out detail, environments have soul, the photography is beautiful... Of course that's to be […]

Aaand here's my first blog post! https://glocq.github.io/en/blog/20250324/ Feel free to comment or tell me whether anything's wrong with the rudimentary blogging system :)

I'm trying my hand at writing #haskell bindings to a C library! It's definitely a little rough but I'm making good progress 😅 Question: The C library has functions that produce an array but expect you to manage memory by yourself — so basically, you allocate an array, give the pointer (as well […]

In #typst , in math mode, parentheses seem to be used both to control logical grouping and, well, to display actual parentheses. It seems that the typst compiler will make a "smart" choice as to whether to show the parentheses you put in (as opposed to only using them to determine how your math […]

I just discovered Hugh Laurie (Dr. House's actor) and Stephen Fry used to be a comedy duo, and I watched this very funny sketch by them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq-dchJPXGA Now what's interesting is the *first* time Laurie drops the object, it did kind of sound like an English name to […]

Any math people (or anyone, really) want to review a math-related blog post I wrote? I'll send you the text, you won't be *committing* to giving me feedback (would just be nice if you do), I just expect you to keep the text for yourself as long as I haven't published it. It definitely won't […]

I'm trying to understand #haskell 's row-types library, and I wonder if anyone ever has, apart from its author

On being asked whether it was OK to spend the day having fun rather then getting on with some chores I accidentally blurted out a line of Philip Larkin. "What are days for?". Anyway, I don't read poetry much, but I do enjoy that particular grumpy old Englishman. Anyway, the full poem, Days […]

Is anyone doing research on how to remove entries from a mailing list? It seems to take 24-48 hours but surely there are fast algorithms.

I just stumbled on this youtube channel about biochemistry, it had superb animations of DNA and RNA and proteins and stuff. heavily recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZAmbbTcQ3M

I'm still not clear whether my private #fediverse account (which is meant to basically replace my #instagram account) should be on #mastodon or #pixelfed, and whether it being on one or the other makes much difference. Both will allow me to interact with any other account on the fediverse* […]

What a fantastic style and execution. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecOOR0fETRA By Florent Lebrun.

Any resource suggestions for an acquaintance of mine who would like to get into #math ? They pretty much stopped doing math in high school, they have a philosophy background, today they're a software developer discovering #Haskell and it makes them want to get into math more. They're very smart […]

J'ai fait un compte privé pour un peu plus raconter ma vie, mettre mes photos de vacances, etc. — par opposition à ici, où je poste plus sur des trucs qui m'intéressent, pas forcément à destination de gens que je connais — : @[email protected]

You have a tech project? Ursula Franklin would like a word. - Are you so obsessed with profit that your project moves costs onto others, or is justice present in your decision making? - Is there reciprocal give-and-take built into your project? - Can the benefits of your project be divided […]
