A noble is defending the intellectual property rights of citizens against attacks from a party called "Labour". What a weird world we live in.

After adventures in JWST data processing I am now short 1.2 TB of space. On a 2TB laptop.

I finished book 2 of Kithamar and given my past experience with Daniel Abraham I am sure that ending a 2nd book in a trilogy with things wrapped up so nicely means something much worse is coming in book 3.

I've been avoiding editing a paper for nearly a year because the referee report irritates me too much and they made me redo everything with barely any change to the scientific results. I made it 3 points out of 25 before giving up for the day.

I would like the subcontinent to please refrain from all out war. Blow up some empty fields on both sides to soothe all egos involved, let the water flow again and work on domestic welfare so people are less motivated to secede (I know it isn't that easy but wouldn't it be nice if it was?).

Between Worldcon and this NyMag article, LLM abuse has already ruined my morning. The very narrow range of use cases for a stochastic parrot (that aren't the things this tech is marketed for) is such a shittily tiny fraction of what people think LLMs are for.

I am looking at JWST data (at the x1dints level) for the first time and these systematics are scary. Why are there strips of wavelength axis pixels behaving with detector edge weirdness? Why are there time periodic clusters of low signal? This is a mess.

Once again, Yankees "defense" does something more appropriate to Little League (two infielders run into the pitcher and all three fail to catch a lazy pop fly).

So we've hit official loyalty tests at NASA. That seems bad.

I would like the nerves in my knee to calm the fuck down when I kneel on it please.

Any grad department admission system that weights undergrad publications more heavily than just doing research for an extended period of time has decided to reward the student's resource access and not the student themselves.

the number of times i have recommended a book back to the person who originally recommended it to me-- look i was not born to remember details i was born to correctly identify a vibe

Idk what genius thought to add coriander oil to accent ice cream but wherever they are, they should know their work is appreciated.

I rode my bike through the intersection where I crashed and yelled "Fuck you" at it.

My parents boiled milk every morning even when we lived here in the US. This is also why I thought hot cereal was normal until I saw people eating cereal in the college cafeteria.

The loaf is long and must rest before it may rise:

The more I think about the final episode of S3 of WoT the more I think its decisions were shortsighted in a way that will hurt if the show goes on for any longer than 2 more seasons.

I think I have talked myself out of one big paper into two medium + one small paper. This is the opposite of how things usually go for me.

I've been hung up on Hycean worlds being a category defined as "I want to believe sub-Neptunes have a very specific ocean surface so I can find life there" since they were introduced. Did anyone else outside of that group ever use the term?

RFK Jr. is speaking to a specific slice of parents (mostly) who believe their autistic child is not like the autistic people who, for example, post on this app. Those parents are committed to a diagnosis of "profound" autism. They are wrong. Please read this from me and @juststimming.bsky.social

mlb: we will never forget what jackie robinson did and what he endured me: wow what specifically did he do and endure? mlb: lol dont worry about it lmao

People, please stop reskeeting the person who used ChatGPT as a tool for their "original" reporting and otherwise just reposts headlines and articles from other sources.

This is why one of the most important things astronomy has to teach the general public is an appreciation and understanding of logarithmic scales:

Cleared to bike again, no more being subject to the whims of Nashville Transit or relying on grocery delivery. And with PT approval maybe I can climb again soon.

*watching an anime trailer with smooth jazz and a roguish charm character with messy black hair* "Is this the Cowboy Bebop director?" *End of trailer* "From legendary director Shinichoro Watanabe"
