The ninth humiliation, Trump raged against Macron about something that did not happen. Trump's real grievance against Macron is jealousy, as the younger French president is looked up to internationally and was greeted with open arms by Greenland. Trump was too cowardly to confront Macron in person.

Same. There’s a lot of frankly mad attempts to deny that this huge change in communication has no consequences, but it’s going too far the other way to cite something where there just isn’t any sign at all of a smartphone effect as yet.

I'm very sympathetic to the arguments that smartphones have had some big bad consequences but I do get the impression that some in that camp want to pin every bad blame thing in the world on smartphones.

Mobile coverage actually quite a lot better in parts of sub-saharan Africa than parts of Europe for obvious reasons path dependency reasons.
