Thanks, me too. It’s really upsetting to see how scared everyone is around me every single day. 😓 I appreciate your suggestions and kindness!!

Thank you. I’m on the air (PFAS) side of things, but I’ll let my toxicology friends know.

Which states? I am one of these ORD scientists and me and my colleagues are having trouble finding any job postings 😭 we all have PhDs and just wanted to help make the environment cleaner and safer. Ugh.

Is alt EPA going to be verified? There’s an account but it’s one of the few not in your AltGov account.

Hmm I’m not totally sure about that. This article explains it in detail: federalnewsnetwork.com/workforce/20...
The admin is already not following this though. :/

There are 3 categories; 1: tenured full time staff, 2: probationary full time staff, and 3: term/temp staff. Category 3 is let go first. There’s also veteran preference and performance evals in category 1 and 2.

No, probationary employees can only be fired for performance or conduct issues. during a RIF, probationary employees are the second to go, but what’s happening now is an illegal purge.

I’m on probation at the EPA and haven’t heard anything yet, but I’m feeling very sad (and also angry). It was my dream to work here, and I’m glad for the time I’ve had.

Thank you 🙁 me and my colleagues on probation all just finished our PhDs too. It’s so upsetting what’s happening. I wish you the best!

Wait seriously?! I hadn’t heard this one yet. 🙁

We have more protection than is being reported. They’re firing us for absolutely no reason. I hope this is litigated because it is both cruel and seemingly illegal.

What about probationary employees who are/were FTEs?

Where was this reported?

The article makes it seem like it’s all federal agencies.

On the fednews Reddit I’ve seen people say ~200,000. So that’s 10% of the federal workforce. This will be catastrophic for some agencies / subdepartments within agencies.

This is my first real job (and was my dream for a decade) and I’m devastated. My friends in my graduating year also got jobs at other agencies and will be fired as well. It’s truly so cruel and outrageous.
