Yeah I'm aware of that but the infrastructure we'd need to build to collect that amount of energy would require a substantial amount of resources, and not just building it but also maintaining it. I just think that we, as a species, need to slow down and chill a bit.

I'm not individualizing it, when I say "we" I'm referring to our society. We, as a society, have to stop using fossil fuels, ban them and replace them with clean renewable energy. Even if we do that tho, LLMs will still contribute to climate change as they require a massive amount of energy and

When it comes to fossil fuels, we needed to stop using them a long time ago, and the solutions have already been around for decades. We already have the means to replace our energy infrastructure with clean renewable energy, but the fossil fuel industry has completely sabotaged efforts to do so

Yeah I feel ya, but I'm not saying it's unconditionally bad, I'm making it very clear why I think it's bad: because the cons (extinction) outweigh the pros. No amount of pros are worth that particular con under any circumstance. It's in every human's best interest to stop using it asap

This goes for fossil fuels as well. If not using something is better for us than using it, then it is not useful. We should stop using it. Using fossil fuels will lead to the destruction of Earth's environment, which will kill us. Therefore, fossil fuels are not useful and we should stop using them.
