This would be a great time for everyone to be cool when reviewing manuscripts and *not* request $25,000 worth of new experiments that don’t substantially advance or validate the study...

New powerful article up in the New York Times on cancelled and delayed grants www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Cytokines 2025 promises to be an exceptional program! Visit seattle.cytokinesociety.org for the full list of invited speakers, to submit your abstract for an oral or poster presentation by June 18, or register today. You don't want to miss this year.

Check out this multiomics study by @naehasubramanian.bsky.social on Lyme disease patients. It reveals localized immune responses at the site of infection, rather than in the periphery. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Heartbreaking effects of NSF, Americorps cuts to Pittsburgh’s after school programs that support and enrich our city’s kids. The need and benefits of these programs is obvious. Isn’t this what we pay taxes for? Doubt philanthropy can take over. www.publicsource.org/federal-fund...

Hearing from sources that grant terminations are starting now, likely targeting grants aimed at broadening participation of underrepresented groups in science.... which congress explicitly asks NSF grants to do.

🚨 Not a drill: NSF GRFP results are NOW OUT!!!!! But...good news and bad news. 👍 I'm *thrilled* for the grad students for whom getting this award will be life-changing, esp now. 👎 # of fellowships went down by 51% (1000 this year vs. 2036 last year) See here: www.research.gov/grfp/Awardee...

Congrats to @sarahmbelcher.bsky.social & @gottschalklab.bsky.social, alums of the Supporting Our Scientists Program, for being selected for the 2025 Senior Vice Chancellor’s Lecture Series! #PittResearch #WomenInScience 👏 Dr. Belcher presented Feb. 21 👏 Dr. Gottschalk presented March 14

Happy to share our reflections @cp-trendsimmuno.bsky.social on our favourite cells: IL-1β+ macrophages 🔥🔥🔥 Molecular, spatial, temporal, functional properties in cancer and beyond... it's all in there from the awesome Nicoletta Caronni, Federica La Terza and @frosio.bsky.social tiny.cc/y94f001

Co-Chairs, Michael Gale, Jr. and @ramlabuw.bsky.social invite abstract submissions for Cytokines2025. Topics include adaptive immunity, cytokine signaling, interferon stimulated genes, structure- function, and more. Submit: seattle.cytokinesociety.org/call-for-abs... Deadline is May 18, 2025.

Labeling your axes and then explaining them slowly is perhaps the biggest bang for the buck you can get for making your slides more understandable.

So happy to share our latest paper on #AlveolarMacrophage responses to low-dose #LPS led by @pamelialim.bsky.social!AM #innate responses are enhanced by IFN-beta due to low c-Maf and IL-10 expression, with implications for AM responses to respiratory infections and environmental exposure. #ImmunoSky

It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.

I am starting this morning by reaching outside of my science echo chamber (posting on facebook) to explain why the NIH matters and why the new indirect rate policy will be catastrophic to everyone

Here's the script I wrote for calling my representative about the latest horrors. Would probably benefit from a better breakdown of how indirects work, but I didn't want it to get too long. Now I just need to decide whether to call now or wait for Monday when I can talk to an actual person.

Not a day for levity, but I needed something to distract myself

I'm delighted to share a new story from our lab published today at @cp-cellmetabolism.bsky.social! In it, we describe how cellular therapies for cancer can be metabolically and epigenetically enhanced by redirecting how glucose is utilized during in vitro expansion. 1/ www.cell.com/cell-metabol...
