Know what your staff want for a "staff appreciation day/week?" A raise.

Just this. 24/7

More time separates Julius Caesar and Shakespeare than separates Shakespeare and you. I mean, this is pretty easy to see, but hs students don't (in my experience) really think to contextualize those things for themselves. It's just, "They're all super old."

Students reading Shakespeare: "Why do we have to read in Old English?" Me: "This is Early Modern English, actually." Students: *minds blown* Me: *pulls up Beowulf or Lord's Prayer* "This is Old English." Students: "That doesn't even look like recognizable."

"Knight" and "knife" are spelled that way because 1. Those letters weren't always silent 2. French influence 3. Writing is the most conservative form of a language and thus the most resistant to change (see "through" vs "thru, "night" vs "nite," etc.)

This is fucking horrifying.

Trope I always love: two bitter adversaries who respect the FUCK out of each other. #tropes #fiction

Gotta admit, not feeling great about the future right now.

it is grimly hilarious that, given the immense, decades-long fetishization of "leadership" and "leadership skills" in business-oriented academia and politics, even unto the formation of leadership institutes, there should turn out to be no leaders in any positions of power

No it absolutely does fucking not. Here's your reminder that serving on a Board of Education is a political appointment. It doesn't mean you know jack shit about education. But, you know, clearly the founder of Silver Dollar City is an education expert. #MO

Pass it on. #StandWithUkraine

Thanks I hate it

I never expected the darkest timeline to also be the stupidest one, yet here we are.

This is just sheer brazen criminality by DOJ. Adams gets federal corruption charges dropped not because there isn’t overwhelming evidence, but because he agrees to help Homan round up migrants. And Homan says the charges will be refiled if Adams doesn’t “come through.”

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

Yet more evidence that the normal functioning of our government is basically a series of gentleman's agreements. And that if those are broken willfully, repeatedly, Dems will do a lot of hand-wringing and not much else. We're not going back to the 1950s. They're taking us to the 1930s. In Germany

Missouri voters approved a constitutional amendment legalizing abortion but it is still inaccessible in Missouri. Now Republican lawmakers are set to upend abortion rights altogether with HJR 54. Please sign up to testify against HJR 54 in person or online: secure.everyaction.com/zW_Z_RTOL0Ci...

Very good advice to find after a day of doomscrolling

Can always count on the Dems to bring a banana to a gun fight.

In case it helps someone: The phrase “We don’t do / say that here” is immensely useful in managing people who feel emboldened to try to push boundaries and test behaviour norms in your spaces. It’s a bland statement of fact, doesn’t contain an accusation, and can be used by anyone including peers.

If it were legal to fire you, they wouldn't put so much effort into getting you to resign voluntarily.

X is Republican state media. Get off of X.

How to politely call someone stupid: "I seem to have overestimated your intelligence." You're welcome.

Hey, you know what I'm in fear of? Government overreach. Mass genocide in Palestine. School/mass shooters in schools. The price of milk. You know what I'm not in fear of? THE FUCKING IRS

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THE FEDERAL FUNDING PAUSE DOES YOU COLOSSAL JACKASS

President Trump put an end to a policy that restricted federal agents from making immigration arrests at certain locations, including schools. It's already affecting school staff, kids and parents.

It's terrifying to think one of our best bets for the future is just the complete, utter ineptitude of the current administration. Sadly, I fear they are *just* competent enough to do real, lasting harm to virtually every institution we have. It's already started.
