I like to think that it's more sad than funny. You live in such an insular, self-absorbed, self-celebrating culture that it was inevitable.

My new year's resolution was to shop completely local as much as is practicable. I've eschewed ordering anything online. I cannot fathom a "need" for something in southeast Asia today to be on my doorstep tomorrow. Imagine the ecological cost!
