It is really really sinking in for me the degree to which LLMs are the ultimate expression of right wing anti-intellectualism. Its proponents are literally mocking the idea that anyone would ever want to learn anything, know anything, develop any actual skill, or have a thought of their own.

You can't actually be 'socially progressive' if you are 'fiscally conservative' You can't be socially progressive if your idea of racial justice is "I think rich Black people can pay to escape the consequence of white supremacy"

I need folks to know that this isn't a real thing. Economic conservatism is fundamentally opposed to social liberalism. You can't reinforce capitalism and move wealth toward the wealthy while also pursuing social justice and equality

www.theenergymix.com/hoping-for-d... There is no working technology that can Decarbonise Oil. It’s a pipe dream (see what I did there)

Since this article was published in 2018, billionaires have increased their wealth by $7 trillion, and an estimated 254,000 people in the U.S. have died because they couldn’t access or afford healthcare. Healthcare shouldn’t be for-profit.

Another special labour relations report that emphasizes importance of preserving a right to strike even for workers who perform jobs that are crucial to economy. This one for Vancouver port workers. www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/ar...

It’s hard to escape the dawning realization that part of the goal of Google’s AI Overview is to simply eradicate the concept of anyone else having any kind of website at all. Why click on a link & explore when Google told you the answer & you didn’t know it was wrong?

DSmith says $134 m in Covid shots were stale dated. Now you have to pay to get one. ICU costs $3600/day. $4 B was spend on hospital care during Covid. 10-% those hospitalized died. You cannot use oil field math when determining public health Danny.

Before the far right threatened democracy, neoliberalism stripped it down Faced with new threats, the only thing that can save political democracy is economic democracy www.policyalternatives.ca/news-researc...

The owner of Twitter sends out 100 right wing propaganda tweets every single day and the algorithm is set up so that every single person on Twitter has to see every single one of these tweets. Now here’s another piece about Blue Sky’s ideological diversity problem.

A right-winger -- a registered Republican, a Trump voter, an evangelical anti-abortion activist -- assassinates a Democratic official. Republicans respond by blaming the left. Democrats respond by blaming ... no one.

C.E.O. pay increased last year, and the disparity with what employees are paid is the highest since companies began reporting this measure. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/06/b...

One of the best descriptions of liberalism I’ve read.

The radicalization of the American right is THE story of US politics over the last four decades and political reporters are still not allowed to talk about it

Just to make the obvious explicit: Whether a country is willing to act as an extraterritorial gulag has exactly nothing to do with whether people from that country pose a security risk. They’re not even pretending the “security” pretext for the travel ban is serious.

There a reason the protests are being covered differently from the Tea Party The Tea Party was a front for the wealth class that owns the media and were used to demonize necessary reform These protests were democratic and populist, which the wealth class and its media opposes Hope that helps

The UCP could keep up with rising costs if it charged a sales tax (even a minimal one), didn't offer the O&G industry so many perks (not cleaning abandoned well sites, low royalties), relied on data and facts rather than the opinions of her supporters, and were decent people. They're not decent.

Beautiful. Reducing humans to a “what” is the fascist enterprise. Reclaiming ourselves as a “who” is ours. And ours is the better story.

Great piece from Kaylie Tiessen on the real inflation risk facing Canadians. The overwhelming evidence is that inflation is driven in part by price gouging, excessive profit-taking and the ease with which Canada's corporate oligopolies exploit crises. socialcapitalpartners.ca/sellers-infl...

Canada is no more than a head fake, when it comes to renewables and a viable climate plan. Heaven forbid we bring in more affordable EVs from China or partner with non-North American auto corporations which are committed to EVs.

the story today is of a profoundly low energy military parade being met with millions of americans in nationwide protests denouncing the dictatorial pretensions of the president

Ok, *this* is best comparative stat, members of media: The DC Pride parade one week ago had a bigger turnout.

This is serious, rigorous analysis and it should change the way the media has been covering these protests. These were, in the aggregate, *massive.*

For the late/west coast crowd, my Loonie Politics column on the number of things Carney has done to drive cynicism in his government in such a short period of time #cdnpoli

Grenfell fire was caused by corporate greed; calls for unlimited fines, ban on public contracts. 72 people died, no one prosecuted. Corporations responsible for corruption, bribery, tax dodges, sewage dumping, energy price rip-offs. We can have strong democracy or corporations, not both.

Girl who skipped dinner so parents could eat - the true reality of UK child poverty. Human suffering is hidden by numbers. 16m Britons live in poverty. 1% have more wealth than 70% of the population combined. 50 families have more wealth than 34m people. Poverty is a political choice.

Canadians clutching their pearls about ICE barely know the Liberals are pushing through a bill right now giving the gov the ability to check your mail, get your IP and internet history, and makes immigration and asylum seeking way more difficult

Good @wickdchiq.bsky.social piece on how Mark Carney is caving to Trump even as he gets credit for opposing Trump. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Scott Moe is going to make Saskatchewan pay for Covid Vacines. So what happened to all the unspent Federal COVID funds? ( rhetorical question as we already know )

Also, LaGrange is lying about the $110 per vaccine cost. This study, found with a five-second Google search, estimates the Canadian price at $43 Cdn. The study provides a cost-benefit analysis that shows it makes economic sense for govts to pay for vaccines. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1...

move to replace “you could’ve heard a pin drop” with “you could’ve heard a tank squeak” all in favor

Genie: ok what do you want for your birthday Trump: a military parade, oh, and also millions of people on the street chanting my name Genie: okie dokie

Sitting in an ER waiting room for nine hours

Me as a kid reading Dune: I don’t get why their whole society is built around the eradication of A.I., seems like they’re wasting a lot of tech Me as an adult: oh that’s why

Capitalism and war killing the planet and people you love? Have you tried practicing gratitude?

"UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (#IPCC) states #renewables are 10 times better than #nuclear at lowering carbon emissions." www.theguardian.com/environment/...

I had extremely low expectations for Carney since the beginning, but he’s quickly managed to be worse than I could have imagined.

The conservative movement is just three internet scams wrapped in racist trench-coat.

That's the plan.

Western liberals: "Capitalism is not the problem. The problem is crony capitalism. What we need is 'real' and 'fair' capitalism where large corporations don't have so much of the market share." 'Yeah, bruh! Cancer is not the problem. The problem is stage 4 cancer. What we need is stage 2 cancer.'

There’s a TON of evidence that bigger, higher vehicles are far more likely to kill somone they hit, crushing vital organs & pushing victims under. But never forget, their weight, height & sightlines also make it far more likely that they’ll hit someone in the first place. HT @transenv.bsky.social

"A metastasizing swath of media is controlled by private-equity vultures and capricious billionaires and other people who genuinely believe that they are rich because they are smart and that they are smart because they are rich, and that anyone less rich is by definition less smart.”

It very much feels like Canadians have inadvertently elected a coalition government: Liberal ministers, Conservative policies. Unity!
