Ghost is working on addressing the exact issue you're describing by integrating social web support. It's in beta on Ghost(Pro), but I think this addresses the isolation concern. ghost.org/changelog/so...

Totally agree on the amount of time spent on proposals and grants. It dominates my job and they are only likely to get more competitive given fewer future opportunities.
