It's not a contest but physical abuse of people with disabilities was very early. 1933 mass sterilisation law. 400,000 people sterilised. Then came the euthanasia T4 program which prototyped methods for the mass extermination camps. It was officially halted in 1941 but continued.

Barthes has a famous bit about a Hollywood movie using sweating as a sign of moral feeling and tormented virtue in 'Julius Ceasar' antonisch.wordpress.com/2020/01/09/r...

Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.

Is astonishing, isn't it? Same happens but a bit less with visual art. Not so much in film maybe, tho there are still some people who think Hollywood = the movie industry

is a favourite for me - I did not like it much when I bought it on release but after a while I came to like it far more than some of his others - Music for Airports for example

They have been on the path to failed state for quite a while, I think a predictable endpoint of individualism

I think, at least in part, we suck up to the US in hope they won't destabilise our country and install a puppet regime. AUKUS, in my view, is to some extent money as tribute to the King..
Otherwise I would assume it means our politicians are to some extent working in the interests of a foreign govt

I'd be thinking it's more like a crime against humanity to knowingly contribute to planetary ecocide. Just my view of course.

completely appropriate that Australia's commander-in-chief has announced this review. That should be enough, no need for another

Chance Trump might save us from AUKUS by increasing the price beyond what even Marles and Albo are willing to pay

The evil empire, that great satan, is on its way out and sadly taking down so many vulnerable and disadvantaged people with it. That will bring a smile to the too-much-Sun-Kings face but eventually that smile will be well and truly wiped and he will live in history as the man who destroyed the USA

yep, this disconnect between 'actual reality' and 'State reality' is I think a strong indicator for the 'failed state' pathway. This ridiculous award is not the first instance of that disconnect

he got a special mention for his AUKUS work. Looks like Australia is following the US and UK down the 'failed state' path. Still avoidable but steady as she goes will see us on that course. (deliberate naval metaphor).

I thought this was pretty good, not as good as the original Danish movie but still worth a watch. I'll go back and skip through for the sound design again

no analysis is probably better than anything in the MSM. I seem to remember it was shown a while ago that people who watched fox news knew less about the world than people who followed no news at all. I would think the same applies in Australia

I see that flipped - given politicians and others have been more than happy to knowingly collude on global ecocide for decades - with global death and suffering far exceeding anything previous, why would you think they would care about Gaza?

was just in Italy and thought how their economy is quite different given they do relatively little construction of new homes, but lots of renovation. Affects things like number of trucks on the road and clusters of big utes parked
