You could also argue her presence may have helped stop another attack right there. There's a lot of "in hindsight" going around.

* it actually isn't clear if she called for backup or was waiting for backup

Obviously this isn't much comfort for the Hortmans, though

For folks who don't watch the video, there's a bit more to it - the officer tried to question him and he did not respond. She called for backup, but he left before they arrived. She didn't just see him there and think "OK, it's all good."

I know everything he says is stupid, but talking about Chicago, L A and New York as formerly "idyllic" is really stupid

LA County has almost 10 million people and almost half of them are Hispanic. A migrant invasion? The whole state used to be part of Mexico!

You seem to be mistaking anger for panic and confusion. When every acronym of federal agencies show up in combat gear and masks and treat residents with hostility, people get angry.

Sending like 50 guys in various shades of masks and camo to a Mexican restaurant and making no arrests is going to, um, provoke a few questions

Supposedly it isn't an immigration case, so it seems they were looking for citizens

Hoping Ms. Kofman got some hazard pay
-One morning this winter, I woke up to twenty-eight texts from Yarvin expressing concerns about my reporting technique. “The problem is that your process is slack and I can feel it generating low-quality content—because it’s not adversarial enough,” he wrote.

Even the highest of the perennially high wouldn't come up with "Yeah, we could have a button that would disarm all government weapons, pretty sure no one would ever try to mess with that..."

Another Minnesota congressional rep, Betty McCollum, is also outspoken on Palestinian rights, and never gets the same blowback for some weird reason
