For example, if the left is critical when someone asks Luxon a question & he says “what I’m saying to you is” and tries to reframe the question, caution is needed if the left then champions the tactic just because the user is liked.
Maybe everyone but elected officials should be able to use it.

This is dope. BUT I will note many politicians have already learned this tactic to avoid answering *any* questions they don’t like, even if it’s in the public interest. In this case, Greta was right to not respond to stupid questions but stick to her message, but it can be used in bad faith.

The white moderate who is more devoted to order than justice… who constantly says “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can’t agree with your methods of direct action.”

Sorry, I thought Luxon was just celebrating hard working Kiwis yesterday? Oh, only billionaires, I see.

Yeah, okay free mammograms for over 45s, as I thought - this ad is off by about 10-15 years because we young millennials had all that shit too.

Where you increase the rent because of that heritage value despite the state of the house decreasing. Where folks daren’t ask about Healthy Homes because the scheme has loopholes so large you could throw a heater through them - not that any heat would stay inside anyway, too many “character” cracks.

Had some vague idea it pertained to Mary but seeing it spelt out is another thing - to be fair, I grew up low Anglican we aren’t very Catholic it’s more the high Anglicans than that merge with the religion they sprung from

He really hasn’t had any other job has he? Like all the others branched out into fantastic weird and wonderful things and he just… didn’t. I literally don’t know what he did for the past decade.

Yeah, did a cabin on a sailing earlier this year, was totally worth it because, despite having a migraine and rough seas, I had ear plus and a sleep mask and fell asleep in the bunk within 20 minutes with the distant sounds of screaming and vomitting blocked out.

*because while Māori & Pacific musos have always been around, they are far more at the forefront of NZ music than say 20/30 years ago… so I think there’s elements of racism at play when NZ music ‘fans’ don’t champion current top acts who are Māori/Pasifika but always hark back to older Pākehā acts.

The other thing I’ve noticed about Bishop is that his constant reference is to bands of 20+ years old… he never celebrates anything current. I’m all for celebrating NZ legends, but I think it also reflects on a person who claims to love NZ music if they aren’t keeping up with ANY current stuff.

Suggesting Clark’s comments were more insulting than Bishop’s fully misses the point of the context of the “crap” and “performative acclaim” remarks in context of a song celebrating te ao Māori.

I’m ex local govt not central and I know it’s not quite the same but I saw impromptu haka in all sorts of official contexts there including full Council meetings. Sometimes to tautoko decisions, sometimes to protest. EMs may not have liked it but there was never a question that it was inappropriate
comment in response to

In TPM’s differing view of the Privileges Committee’s findings, the party set out its own explanation for Ngarewa-Packer’s actions during the haka. The fact that people don’t quote this at all is frustrating.

THANK YOU, YES! I was very frustrated to get through the RNZ/Herald reporting to finally access to the original article and find out the breadth of his offences… like obviously recording workers is a terrible thing in & of itself, but knowing he also took photos of strangers was extra unsettling.

Yeah, all the framing has focused on the sex work part of it and it’s like guys it’s legal. The only important point is that he exploited workers during their work… but ffs clearly he also stalked women at the gym/supermarket so like, hey Luxon “are you okay with women going to the supermarket?” 🤦🏻♀️

Given govt media press secretaries are assigned to MPs than employed by specific MPs, there may not have been a ‘hiring’/disclosure process when he switched offices. One would think joining the PM’s office might have extra processes, but potentially not, he’s got a big team & Forbes wasn’t junior.

I haven’t added “and x months” to my age in many years but I’m 10 months away from being to get the vaccine again so I keep on adding 29 *and two months* in my head any time my age comes up 😂

It’s really interesting to look at the UK, because the anger at the Tories is still there for a lot of people who lost loved ones. Whereas (for most in NZ) we didn’t have that (thank god) but it was still a big thing w/out something to blame so people didn’t really know what to do with the emotion.

It’s actually gross they’re going after private/overseas providers. Like, you’ve already made it hard enough for people to access anything through the public system, just give people choice with private systems. If you’re REALLY going to make that many hoops, it’s not really about caution is it?

There’s many reasons why people apply for benefits. Being young shouldn’t be a reason why one is denied.
If you wouldn’t apply the test to someone in their 30s (rightfully so) then it’s ridiculous to think just because teens are or could be in the family home, they shouldn’t be able to apply.
