ID: 1. Antiretroviral management when the management is “just don’t stop their Biktarvy.” 2. Cavitary lung lesion when the patient is not on isolation and no sputums have been sent because they are “waiting on the Quantiferon Gold”. 3. “Extensive purulence encountered, no cultures sent.”

When I find one of those, we usually have a blissful honeymoon period for about two months when everyone is happy at least one night a week. Then someone decides they’re sick of it.

This happens to me as I’m trying to learn medical Spanish. I speak some French so as patients are explaining something to me in Spanish I will be understanding what they say, then I open my mouth to respond and French comes out. The looks I get from the patients and the interpreter. 🙈

Gentamicin - jello salad. Used to be everywhere. Now people who bring it are pitied.

Cipro - baked apples. Goes well with ham. Your great aunt always has it.

Metronidazole - ham. Is it really necessary if we have turkey? Seems redundant.

Azithromycin - cranberry sauce. Everyone thinks it’s necessary, would probably be fine without it.

Amoxicillin- rolls. For the kids.

Doxycycline - sweet potato casserole. You forget about it, but when done correctly it saves the day.

Levofloxacin - green bean casserole. Traditional but probably not that good for us.

Vanc - mashed potatoes. A staple. But surprisingly easy to screw up (not enough butter and salt).

Pip/tazo - turkey. The classic. But no one’s favorite.
