As long as it's dread horror (not the jumpscare nonsense), I'm in. :)

The Whistler example from your post is the exact example I use when arguing with people who can't seem to understand the concept of paying people what they're worth... www.penny-arcade.com/news/post/20...

It's almost like there's a running theme where any service you need is always being defunded because lobbyists for the industry affected push things through. This, the IRS and tax preparers, Big Pharma, etc. Can't we just have basic things be affordable or free?

Yeah, we've got firebugs trying to start fires in Los Angeles. Fortunately the conditions are poor for that. Just hot and dry but no winds. If you're not already using it, I'd try the Watch Duty app, assuming it's available for Canada. Great coverage, non-profit.

Sounds like someone used to dealing with hook--I mean influencers... :)

That like the old cable days of paying $100+ per month for thousands of channels you’ll never use?

Call forth the power of Dewey, the Arranger God, and let Korak-To channel his power to slay the Chaos Gods' minions!!

I know...it's so annoying. On Windows, it's not intuitive. It just shows "OneDrive" with a folder icon above the file name field so you think you don't have a choice. You have to hover over that OneDrive label to find out you can just click it and pick a new location. More work for us...

They will sell out immediately and she will own PAX from then on.

Yep. It's really the point. Using a calculator to help solve a formula or even using a computer to do it isn't the problem. It's making sure people understand the problem and know what the computer is solving for. Otherwise, we're living in a Warhammer 40k world relying on the Omnissiah to solve it.

True but the idea is more than when there are tools on offer, like you said, a "proper" education system will teach you how to do it. It has to be learned so it's understood. In practical use cases (e.g., working with whatever tool we're talking about), it's fine to use it within reason of course.

It's like that whole controversy where that professor made an AI-resistant test and the college students complained. When you're learning something like multiplication tables/arithmetic, you need to learn without calculators. When you're doing calculus, it's a requirement. Needs to be tempered.

I equate it to calculators. You use calculators enough to do the math you could do in your head, you start to struggle to do the math in your head and soon are reliant on those calculators.

Funny thing is I always hated bananas in smoothies but they put them in just about every recipe out there because they make them more rich. When I used to frequent Jamba Juice, they had like maybe 2-3 smoothies without banana...

Basically the equivalent of trying to use a calculator to do basic math exams. I love the "Everyone is doing it" excuse...seem to recall that being the excuse for juicing in professional sports...

Great speech. And also a reminder. I was one of those people who watched Star Trek (well, reruns of the OG series) and absolutely agreed with Gene Roddenberry's vision. I thought when I grew up, that was the world I was going to be living in. I feel like the last 10 years sent us back 75 years.

No but I’ve watch numerous time lapse merchant ship passages. Huge expert…(kidding of course).

OMG, I remember this. It's my go-to example when talking about what money is (a representation of value) and how arbitrary it could be (Monopoly money, bitcoin...you know). Back when TV actually tried to teach you something...lol

You know...don't know if they're police or private security but they look a hell of a lot like brownshirts...I'd like to hear what law they were enforcing by dragging her out. Public servants need a reminder of the definition of the term...

Dammit...that's exactly what came to my mind first as well. Maybe that binge of the Pitt had too lasting an effect...

You know...certain projectors let you buy two and link them so they produce a bigger image (each one projecting half) without losing quality...

And I too am the kind of person that ascribes “life” or meaning to things, and cares for the lives of even the smallest creatures we encounter. I don’t necessarily conduct funerals for bees but I do mourn a dead bee, and try to help the living ones. All that to say, you’re not alone.

I often think about the fact that most things done 100 years ago or earlier usually involved craftspeople who actually did good work. Today people care more about money and costs here than quality of work and pride in work. It’s only peripherally related to your post but…this place has changed.

Dang, I would've loved to give it a go. Love what you all have been doing. I just don't have game industry experience. :(

It's why I never could grasp people cosplaying them. I get that it can be fun if you don't think about the implications but running around as a storm trooper (look up what a storm trooper was) or an Imperial officer in those uniforms?

Man...those Ultima cloth maps...I used to love those. Now I wish I'd had the money to buy multiple copies just to have one to crack open in adulthood...

The problem is they're spinning it in a way that solidifies the arguments the conservative half of the country care about. I was playing a game where global chat had a guy spewing all the same bullshit "facts" about the US and what's going on. All I could see is a scared idiot clutching his pearls.

I remember reading a story of the Nazi's collecting Jewish kids in the Netherlands from a school or some place. Two Dutch women (not Jewish) objected to the soldiers taking children like that. The soldiers took the two women as well and carted them off with the children. Don't know if they survived.

Could do an installment agreement but you'll still pay penalties of course.
